Oh, I was thinking the pussy was outside the house, where that wouldn't be a problem.

He is still skittish but seems to be coming around.  You could walk out of the room and back in the room. his pupils dilate and he stares at you nervously.  He was spending a lot of time under the couch and now is spending more time with the humans.  He started playing with his toys and brought a cat toy into the bed this morning.

His is nocturnal and a talker.

When I adopted kittens a long time ago, they were very nocturnal and made it tough on me. I started keeping them awake during the day. Over the course of a month I switched them over to a more sane wake time habit.

But... I thought they were nocturnal creatures anyway.

Well they can be encouraged to be much less nocturnal if you keep poking them when they sleep during the day and say "NO SHLUFFING IN THE DAYTIME!!!!"

Vacuum cleaner in every room, each on an automatic switch that turns it on for ten seconds at random times during the day.

My other cat wouldn't care, he was so cool about everything.  He didn't give a damn about the vacuum cleaner, unless you hit is chair with the vacuum cleaner, then he was more miffed that you bothered him.  He would look up at you, "really?" and then jump down and go to another room.

Good idea.  I haven't tried the vacuum with the new cat.

This cat knows how to open doors, no wonder he got out the last time.  He opened a closet door that doesn't latch.  He has opened several bathroom and kitchen cabinets and he has opened a door on the china cabinet that has a magnetic latch.  He knows how to open doors.

Grab him by the pussy and say "no, you are not going to escape this time, ha ha ha."

Yeah, one of mine does that too - I even had to "baby-proof" the bathroom door!  Luckily, all my external doors have deadbolts and he hasn't figured those out yet (and probably isn't quite strong enough to manipulate them)

Indoor/outdoor pussy.

Cat was begging to be let in or out the door a dozen times a day and it was getting annoying. I installed this cat door with a "prox reader" built in.
What sold me on this product was that the cat doesn't have to wear a special tag -- the door unlocks when it detects the chip that he received when we adopted him.

Pets are "chipped" these days so they can be returned to their homes if they are "lost"
but it's pretty cool that he can use the same chip to "badge in" to the house without having to carry an additional tag.

I installed it in the garage door because the cats already have access to the garage. That's where their litter box is. There is a different kind of cat door leading into the main part of the house, one with a weatherproof design using magnets that snap/seal it shut when not in use.

Is this same technology used in children? Have you had your children chipped? <GRIN>

Did he grab and shove his kids through the door?

No, the kids aren't chipped because they don't fit through the cat door.  They can get in the normal way.

And here's a photo of the cat door when the garage door is open.  No, it doesn't crash into the garage door frame.

Damn, that would be AWESOME if it did.

In the picture there are chains hung up on the wall.  Are those chains for the kids or for the wife?

The chains are not there to bind anyone. They are for beating the crap out of visitors who ask stupid questions. They also work well as snow chains on the rear wheels of my tractor when it is configured as a snow plow instead of a mower.

The remaining garden tools in the photo are there strictly for bludgeoning people as well.

Where do you keep the wood chipper?

I don't own a wood chipper.

Proof of this: Bill Gates is still alive.
