"The contingency fund is only used for actual emergencies, not to feed people." ( or keep a roof over their heads as aside from employees not being paid, section 8 is going to collapse too ) And yet we can still give money to other countries..
Of course none of this effects the elite, or members of congress.
And i saw a comment " if a state uses its own funds to keep these programs going during the shutdown, they will not be reimbursed" Really?
Is this the final straw? Is it time for cake yet?
When i was a kid, for Samhain many would grab a white sheet, cut out 2 holes so can see, and use it a a costume, ya know, as a freaking ghost. Perhaps the simplest and most iconic thing to do.
Now you get accused of being a KKK member and get attacked.
Can we go any lower as a society?
Setting aside issues of fraud we do have with the program, and just sticking with the intent to help the needy:
SNAP runs out money next week. People wont have food. Some companies like Walmart are steeping up to help out. The response? People who can afford food complain they didn't get a deal too.
300 pound Laqueefa needs to lose a few pounds. Maybe if she can't spend my money on pop and twinkies she'll think about getting a job.
I know people who are not like that and are simply down on their luck.
And often times, the job market sucks. Only job you get, still wont pay the bills and buy food.

Religious organizations around here have been doing charity food way more effective than government sponsored programs. Maybe that is the reason why I don't see what the big deal is with federal food stamps running out.
That said, I should say it sucks when you had certain problem back in the day and nobody cared, and years later you have solved the issue and, when other people have it, it suddenly turns into a big social issue and all resources are dumped into solving it. It feels like you were selectively ignored because fuck you.
I know it is not the same thing at all but for some reason the conversation made me think of it.

Jobs are a dead end. When I came out of college all job positions available had impossible requisites and usually required you to move to some urban hell. Then you find out your urban hell wage barely pays for your living and you are not saving a dime afterwards.
The alternative is staying in a rural area where everything is dirty cheap, but there aren't many jobs and the ones there are pay peanuts. At least you can save up something, but in last instance you are getting paid in fiat money, which eventually is not worth a damn.
If you can, it is much better to buy stocks in the companies who are exploiting urban hell employees so you get to profit from people who believes living in a small village is not worth it and are willing to dump their lives down the drain to avoid it.
I wont disagree, but the reality is that 'true rural' is vanishing. Quickly. ( at least here in the Midwest US )

Somewhat amusing to me, related to the shut down. ( in a facepalm humor way )
Democrats are wanting to do 'rifle targeted bills' ( not sure if it was a backhanded slam on 2A or not ) to get things like snap going before the serfs revolt. "A single funding issue on a bill.. to get around the roadblock" and R's are complaining that it will reduce their overall leverage since it cuts into the obscene omnibus bills.
WTF.. That is how its supposed to be in the first place. ****ers ( both sides )
There is only one solution. Getting closer...

Nor did I imply that. People who need help should have a way to get it.
Laqueefa should be butchered and sold as biofuel.
"Trump urges Republicans to kill the filibuster" well, of course he does. When the shoe is on your foot.... freaking hypocrites.
I guess Johnson is pushing back, he gets it... "be careful what you wish for"
Ok just must have been me then.
I know what its like to be on the wrong side of things, so i always defend them.

I guess courts have ordered them to pull funding from the money that was actually set aside for this purpose.. Which is good, gets that nonsense off the political table ( from both sides ). And a tidbit i did not know below. And of course fraud aside which DOES need to be weeded out, this is a large %, assuming they really do mean majority and not just making it sound more than it is.
"About 59% of SNAP households in 2023 were single-person households, and the majority of those individuals were elderly or had a disability."
Oh, and i didn't mean to imply i was on stamps, just that i know how it is to struggle. In my case due to some poor decisions. Took me a couple of years to dig my way out of that hole. But not having any disability or anything ( other than being stupid.. ), i was on my own. And honestly even if could qualify somehow, the thought never occurred to try to apply for any government assistance beyond unemployment for a couple of months, which is more of an insurance policy i paid into. Just isn't how i was raised.
Not a fun couple of years.

I bet Prince Andrew is thanking his lucky stars he's in the club. Got a bit of a hand slap, but wont see any jail time or anything for his actions.
( if true, which sounds like it is, really he should be fertilizer. this sort of behavior should not be tolerated )
Had to run errand early his morning, drove past the local food bank this morning. Must have 1/2 mile of people in line.
Thomas Jefferson and James Madison would be ashamed of us right about now.
( cant say about the others, but those 2 did NOT want a all powerful federal government. Like we have for a long time now )
"sure we will fund it, perhaps in a few weeks, or a month, we donno. Oh, and only for 1/2" "and if the democrats will reopen" "now, don't bother me i have a steak dinner to eat in my new gold lined dining area, oh and fund some stuff i like" Both sides are at fault here.. so shut your mouth and take some responsibility for a change.
its wrong to be using people like this as pawns in their political power struggle. Both sides are at fault, its unacceptable, and I hope this is the beginning of the unraveling of DC. But then again, that might be the goal, get people pissed off enough to start the next revolution because 40 million are starving... then declare martial law..
