Who is this televangelist, and does he not know that the God of the New Testament doesn't do stuff like that anymore? Please give me his address so I can send him a Bible that doesn't have pages missing.

And of course it should go without saying that under my administration there will be no government recognition of any type of marriage, so you can go ahead and marry whoever or whatever you want.

I never forgot about Reverend John Haggee's comments that Hurricane Katrina came about as God's way of wiping out New Orleans because it had a gay pride parade the week before.

What if that person doesn't want to merry you?

The "consenting adults" thing seems to be the appropriate outlook, at least from a common sense point of view. However one feels about the subject, it's none of the government's business to decide who can get married and who can't.
It's a civil affair and you go with what you feel fits your own moral framework.
I got married to a member of the opposite sex, in a church, because in my world that's how it's done -- but I don't have any right to force my world onto everyone else. This is the central problem with the statists: they feel that anything worth doing, is worth having the government oversee. So when they hear "X should not be paid for by the government" they parse that as "those evil conservatives think that X should be illegal." Birth control is a great recent example of this.

You're going to hear a lot about social issues this year. The reason for this is that the media wants people talking about *anything* other than the economy during this election cycle.

I'd like to see people show some respect for a change. Special interest groups using the government as a cudgel to beat each other with doesn't help the situation. People trying to use the Bible to justify absolutely indefensible positions doesn't help either.

Sorry for rambling, it's late and I'm fighting off a cold and where the hell is my giraffe?

The social issues this political season, as Reason.com says the "slut" is a red herring.

It is none of our business how much the 30-year-old college student wants to sleep around, but it is none of my business to pay for her birth control to sleep around.
I caught about two minutes of Rush's show yesterday, he said the democrats won on this issue because the republicans have no idea what hit them.

Intrade.com still has Obama's chances of a second term at 60%. Romney winning the republican primary is up to 85%. It will be interesting to see how much these figures change by
tomorrow.

(Yeah, it's definitely time to break out a couple of cool frosty Sam Adams right now :)

As for that slut Sandra Fluke ... pretty much everyone has been played here.
Fluke is described by the media as a "third year law student" but she's also a full time activist. She is 30 years old, not 23. And she is also the past president of "Law Students for Reproductive Justice."

So yeah, I think Rush screwed up. Not because he took a common sense position but because he got suckered into arguing a debate that was carefully engineered by provacateurs to be unwinnable as long as it was played on their terms.

Why is it that nearly everyone involved in big politics right now is either evil or stupid?

Idiots will pay to listen to slightly less stupid idiots. They're DESPERATE to climb one rung up the totem pole.

Pretty soon, Rush will be as desperate for attention as Imus was here:

Rush isn't an idiot.... He's part pundit, part comedian. Now, I personally don't care for Rush, I'd rather he play it straight. But I wouldn't underestimate him at all.

Again, however -- by continuing to pay attention to Sandra Slut Fluke and other "social issues" debacles being loudly touted by the axis press, we are falling victim to their plan to keep people talking about anything other than Obama's failed economic policies.

Rush should know better than to give airtime to any of this.

anything other than Obama's failed economic policies.

show me someone on the right who isn't going around acting like a loon thumping books written by Hayek as if it's the King James Edition, and then the right might have some credibility on economics with me. Nothing further to the right than Mankiw's compromise[1] makes any sense whatsoever...

On that note, Mankiw is one of Romney's economics advisors, and Romney seems to be busy ignoring the advice of his economists.

I got an invitation to a conference today, which on the invitation it states they will no longer be giving out conference bags (or swag bags as we all call them) due to their work towards a sustainable planet.

Bullshit. It saves you a few bucks - while claiming to be good stewards of the earth. Fuck you, assholes.

They're not assholes, they're just stupid. (Like Rush, but I digress.)

Hanlon's Razor applies here. It's very typical for conference organizers to give out a lot of bags... and then notice discarded ones all over the hallways. Ceasing to give out the bags is a rational response, but a better response is to require those who want one to pre-register for it. I've seen this used to good effect.

Incompetence.
