Tue Dec 13 2011 11:06:20 AM EST from IGnatius T Foobar @ UncensoredOddly, I can't find any mention of this in the mainstream media at
home (tho some uk rags mention it w/o the allahu akbar).
This is disgraceful. Until we can actually admit that radical Islam itself is the enemy, not just Al Qaeda or some other vague group, we're going to continue to lose the war.
I thought you guys had already won it
The war's barely begun. Israel is a test case. If the west allows Israel to fall, then Radical Islam will take over them very shortly thereafter.
Wait a minute, I've heard this argument before. It got us into a war that we lost, badly. Cost a lot of lives, and caused a generation of veterans to be treated shamefully.
Except back then, the enemy was 'communism'.
It's amazing what you can justify in the name of The Domino Effect.
On the other hand, fleeb, had we been willing to entertain this argument back during WWII, millions of lives might have been saved.
Most arguments can go both ways. In this case, however, I agree with Tril. Israel's a canary in the coal mine.

Oh come on, it isn't like radical islam has been at war with the west for hundreds of years... he said sarcastically.
*yawn*
The canary in the coal mine is Hungary. How many more countries will fall to dictatorship before the current crisis is done?
http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/19/hungarys-constitutional-revolution/
This is not hyperbole: Hungary is now a dictatorship. Granted, out of Hungary's 3 political parties, if any of the 3 were to grab absolute power, this would be the least worst. But still: they just grabbed absolute power.
Hungary is a canary of a different color, but certainly singing at full throat, I agree. And yet, there's very little coverage of it. Haven't seen much on Kim Jong Il's death either.
But there's lots of "alerts" about the withdrawal of the final US troops from Iraq....

I tend to see these canaries as being of the same species if not precisely the same shade. The death of Israel would mean the death of freedom for the Jews...
The recently deceased freedom in Hungary may mean... perhaps the same thing. For the same people. Think about it. Hungary has written Xtianity into their constitution, and... purged their Christian churches of any doctrines that disagree with the state-sanctioned version. It appears they are literally going around forcing Nonconformists to dissolve their congregations.
In a particular part of the world that has not always been friendly towards the Jews.
Brad DeLong on the Greek concept of democracy and the original defition of freedom:
"...in Herodotus's Histories, where Demaratus tells Xerxes that Persia will have a difficult time conquering Greece. Why? Because the Greeks are not slaves but free men, and will not easily submit and will fight hard. Why will they fight hard? Because they value being free and not being slaves very much. How will they be able to fight hard and so keep their freedom? Because free men are slaves to a particular master: the [democratic] laws that the boulos and demos prescribe. Indeed, men who do not willingly become slaves to the law don't stay free men for long."
Sadly, I believe it's been some time since there has been freedome for Jews (or Muslims for that matter) in Hungry.
But, I do agree that there is relativity and I certainly agree that freedom is in trouble around the world with great impact on Israel - and the US, whether we like to admit it or not.
The citizens of the United States have been gladly giving up their freedoms in the name of safety and or convenience for a long time now. I am sure it is happening all over the world. Maybe those guys over on Prison Planet are only mildly crazy conspiracy nuts.
But there's lots of "alerts" about the withdrawal of the final US
troops from Iraq....
And little if any mention has been made of the fact that the withdrawal is happening because of the expiration of our agreement with the Iraqi government to remain there. His Talks to continue the occupation fell apart so we HAD to leave.
Personally I'm just happy we're getting out; it's not doing anything good for us.
Very true. And you know, we are overstretched.
Yes... we are overstretched. Which is why I didn't want us messing around in the in the first place.
On a completely different topic, though:

well, yes Iraq. I'd basicaly compare it to yougoslavia, a state where ethnical groups have been combined, and one oppressed the other.
I guess the Iraq and its peoples would be better of to become a looseley couplet union of at least 3 states.

If we spent a little more time fixing our domestic issues and less time fucking with other countries, we would probably be much better off.
But then, I've held a rather isolationist perspective for a long time now.
It looks like an advertisement for General Mills. Look at it - The Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Apple Cinnamon Cheerios are left alone!

I simply can't keep myself from eating much more than I would require.if you have a cereals mix with oatmeal plus lots of other stuff in it, and a mere 5% of these in the mix it might be ok.but else this is a real killer, and comparing it to H is definitely justified.
