I'm very angry with our government right now.

I woke up this morning and performed my normal routine of checking up on my favorite web comics.  One of them, however, has had its domain hijacked:

http://www.gpf-comics.com/

Not the sort of hijacking you'd expect... our government did this.  I can find no information on the internet as to why Mr. Darlington's site was taken.

But, I did find this:

http://torrentfreak.com/us-government-responds-to-domain-seizures-ignores-the-big-question-101129/

Of course, the idiots at the MPAA applaud this, but I wonder how quickly they'd reverse their position if someone hacked into their web site, put some child pornography on a hidden place within it, then reported them to the government so their domain became seized.

No due-process at all.  None.  IBM could have their public presence stripped from them if one of their employees decided to start using their web site for distributing anything illegally, to give a little perspective on this.  If the company I currently work for had its web site stripped, I would have to find employment elsewhere almost immediately, as we do not have the funds to hire lawyers to fight this kind of thing.

Fucking amazing.  What the hell is going on with our government?

It's back door fascism, that's what it is. This story broke a couple of months ago. They're basically using customs laws to do whatever they want to by claiming "trafficking in illegal whatever"

But -- that did *not* happen to GPF. It was an April Fools joke played by Darlington on his readers. :)

It had occured to me that it might have been a practical joke, but honestly, who could be sure?

If so, he was very, very elaborate with the prank.  He also immitated some of the goofy DNS problems you might have prior to the event a couple of days or so ago.

And definitely don't get involved in a land war in Asia!

A work colleague spent about 4 hrs explaining himself whilst on a business trip and was only allowed through because airport security telephoned the company he was travelling to and had a long conversation.  Something to do with having travelled to Egypt in the last few years.  Don't believe the hype.

I hope everyone's following the budget snafu on Capitol Hill and trying to draw your own conclusions instead of believing the hype?

I really don't understand how anyone can continue to support a government that's broke, trillions of dollars in debt, headed straight for a collapse, and still wants to pass a budget that doesn't include a *massacre* level of spending cuts.

The tax-and-spenders are refusing to pass the House bill, which includes the deepest level of cuts proposed so far (IMHO, not nearly enough). They're characterizing it, predictably, as "tax breaks for the wealthy." wtf?? Instead of believing them, do the math yourself: even if the top tax bracket were to be set at 100%, we would still be trillions of dollars in debt.

WARNING: POLITICAL RANT. Stop reading NOW if you're not into this kind of thing.

This was written in response to someone who sent me a link to an article in a trashy liberal rag which argues that people who don't embrace liberal propaganda (such as the myth that B. Hussein Obama was born in the United States, and the myth that humans are the cause of global warming) actually have some sort of physical brain damage.

It is ironic that a screed criticizing the human habit of selective belief would come from the propaganda machine of Mother Jones, a participant in one of the most damaging selective belief systems in the world. It is indeed frightening to observe the incognizant conformity of so many people based on the disingenuity supplied to them by the liberal media. What is even more frightening is the method with which the statists attempt to suppress dissent by any means possible, including and especially by the systematic destruction of the reputations of the more threatening dissenters. When the facts are not on your side, your options are limited, but if you cannot destroy the dissent, destroy the dissenters.

As for the actual birthplace of one Barack Hussein Obama, one must call into question the eagerness with which the liberal elite attack the skeptics. They wish to marginalize skeptics of Mr. Obama's birthplace as part of the lunatic fringe with the same ferocity they used to marginalize skeptics of anthropogenic global warming – a group whose skepticism became legitimate last year when the IPCC was found to have falsified the data used as the basis for its scaremongering. So perhaps the important question is not where Mr. Obama was actually born, but rather, why is it unacceptable to question anything at all? Skepticism is healthy, and it is quite legitimate to distrust those who instruct us to withhold our skepticism because it clashes with their political agenda.

If you are curious about where I personally believe Mr. Obama was born, you are asking the wrong question. It is too late, unfortunately, for the answer to that question to make a difference. Even if the truth came out today, it would take years for the lawsuits to finish; furthermore, even if he was suspended from office today, he has already done such horrific damage to our nation that even if a complete reversal is possible, it will take decades to complete. While I could easily launch into a point-by-point analysis of the facts, which are quite decidedly not in his favor, this is a topic on which nearly everyone has already made up his or her mind.

Many are guilty of espousing selective belief systems. Perhaps the most egregious offenders are those who continue to enable the statist agenda being unwillingly ramrodded down the throats of Americans who, by and large, simply want to be left alone to continue doing the things that made our nation great in the first place. Big Government has different plans, though. “We are the priests of the Temples of Syrinx, and if you don't agree with our agenda, you're a racist!” they repeat over and over again, attempting to marginalize anyone who can actually see the fnords and knows that Big Government is the friend of no one but itself.

And now that I've mixed Rush/2112 and Illuminatus references in the same paragraph, it's probably time to wrap things up. Thanks for your attention, and God Bless America.

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral,
begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy.
Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.
Through violence you may murder the liar,
but you cannot murder the lie,
nor establish the truth.

Through violence you may murder the hater,
but you do not murder hate.
In fact, violence merely increases hate.

So it goes.
I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives,
but I will not rejoice in the death of one,
not even an enemy.
Returning hate for hate multiplies hate,
adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness:
only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate:
only love can do that.

Hate multiplies hate,
violence multiplies violence,
and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction.

The chain reaction of evil — hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars — must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.

I wonder if anyone things Michael Jackson is still alive.  I know at least one person who thinks bin Laden isn't really dead.

I was kind of intrigued with everything that went into this.  And I have to admit, I'm kind of wondering about the level of commitment the Pakistani government has.  I suppose, after all, it's really our problem, but...
