This whole thing is just bizarre. The guy who campaigned on "we're going to end the wars" not only hasn't ended either existing war, but also started a third.

The left *and* the right are outraged.

Here's a thing one of my friends on face book posted:

"Considering that one missile on a British plane costs 700,000 to 1 m GBP and 40 have been fired so far ! the austerity measures are needed in the UK as we are "Skint" then i think that when the dictators are removed a bill should be given to the interim govt first, then they can rebuild ? any thoughts on this ? and no trendy bleeding hart stuff please"

My reply: Exactly what I would have been thinking had I not been thinking, "More military men demanding compensation for injuries received doing a job they knew carried a High risk of being shot at/down, bombed, or hurt in a variety of unsavory ways. Yes each and every one of our military people is doing a hard job in awful circumstances, and they are all some mother's sons and daughters, but it is what they signed up for. So yes, when we're billing the new govt. in Libya, or where ever we should includ a bill for the rehab, and therpy those guys will need too.

I would feel differently if we had a conscript military, but we don't. They all volunteer.

Bella - it's worse for the conscripts. They have no choice whatsoever.

Here is a comment on the situation that is perhaps quite relevant:

"The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation."

-- Senator Obama, December 20, 2007

Meanwhile, the vacationer-in-chief just had a little talk with some folks in Brazil [http://tinyurl.com/4oyb4o8] and told them that we will help them develop their offshore oil resources so that we can one day import their oil.

WTF?

Speaking of awesome conservatives...

http://weaselzippers.us/2011/03/28/donald-trump-has-a-birth-certificate/#more-16077

Donald Trump is proudly displaying his birth certificate. And with his kind of access to the media it's difficult for them to dismiss him as part of the lunatic fringe.

I've never voted Republican in my entire life but if The Donald is on the ticket I'll proudly pull that lever. He's just the kind of America-first, cut-through-the-bullshit kind of leader we desperately need right now.

Ok fine, I won't pull the lever, I'll fill in the little bubble on the paper that gets discarded by whomever is rigging the election during that particular year.

Stephen Harper, minority PM of Canada, is proof that a bad haircut doesn't necessarily hold one back from obtaining high office. The Donald has potential, despite his bad rug.

I'm very angry with our government right now.

I woke up this morning and performed my normal routine of checking up on my favorite web comics.  One of them, however, has had its domain hijacked:

http://www.gpf-comics.com/

Not the sort of hijacking you'd expect... our government did this.  I can find no information on the internet as to why Mr. Darlington's site was taken.

But, I did find this:

http://torrentfreak.com/us-government-responds-to-domain-seizures-ignores-the-big-question-101129/

Of course, the idiots at the MPAA applaud this, but I wonder how quickly they'd reverse their position if someone hacked into their web site, put some child pornography on a hidden place within it, then reported them to the government so their domain became seized.

No due-process at all.  None.  IBM could have their public presence stripped from them if one of their employees decided to start using their web site for distributing anything illegally, to give a little perspective on this.  If the company I currently work for had its web site stripped, I would have to find employment elsewhere almost immediately, as we do not have the funds to hire lawyers to fight this kind of thing.

Fucking amazing.  What the hell is going on with our government?

It's back door fascism, that's what it is. This story broke a couple of months ago. They're basically using customs laws to do whatever they want to by claiming "trafficking in illegal whatever"

But -- that did *not* happen to GPF. It was an April Fools joke played by Darlington on his readers. :)

It had occured to me that it might have been a practical joke, but honestly, who could be sure?

If so, he was very, very elaborate with the prank.  He also immitated some of the goofy DNS problems you might have prior to the event a couple of days or so ago.
