yep, still using them.

everybody else has looks, schimano spd and so on...

But otherwise why would you want to quick disconnect your pedals?

my tandem is used by more than one set of drivers, and depending on the persons shoes/preferences its switching to...

- plain old platform pedal

- plain old platform pedal with straps

- Schimano SPD

- eggbeater

and all that depending on who is sitting on which saddle...

So an easy & quick change of Captain and Stoker isn't possible without getting out the inbus key, the 14mm jaw wrench (depending on which pedals you've got) and screw them off and on again.

Most probably the primary target for that sort of thing are bikes that are ridden indoor for training of bike clubs, so everybody can bring their own pedal and exchange / adjust the bike quickly between several members of the club...

Another reason I can think of for wanting to quick-disconnect pedals is to avoid theft.

bike helmets are next to useless anyways. they're just here for the person thats just overrunning you to not having your blood distributed all over his car and getting shocked.

bs. i was sitting in the doc's office with a guy who'd pitched forward over a rock 3 days earlier swerving b/c some kid had stopped suddenly on an off-road ride. Helmet was smashed to bits (the helmet apparently looked ok, but the guy at the bike store pulled out the inner lining and it was clearly wrecked). Head inside was fine. Arm was broken, but hey, you can't win 'em all. If the helmet was wrecked, I'm guessing the head would have been wrecked some without it.

I know another guy who was hit by a car and went flying. The injuries to his face and some of his body were serious, but again, helmet was smashed, brain was not. 15 years later, the guy, who's near 80 by now, is still going strong.

Helmets are good things. (on motorized vehicles w/out cages).

Horses, bulls, bikcycles, i never wore one.

Honestly though, I'd ride my sled without a helmet before i'd ride it
without body armor. Same goes for bulls, armor's on when there's no
fence between them and me.

I never rode a bicycle with a helmet when I was a kid, and I've never ridden a bicycle but once since they made helmets mandatory in WA state. Not because I have a burning hatred of helmets so much as a healthy fear of bicycles.
Despite what They say, you can totally forget how to ride and it's kind of terrifying to try to relearn as an adult. =)

fear. yes. thats what its about.

http://www.copenhagenize.com/2010/09/vanity-myth-go-figure.html

bicycling isn't remotely as dangerous as bull riding. though animal names them in conjunction that he does both without helmet.

(well, maybe if you do downhill biking, yes, then its probably ok to wear body armor & a _real_ helmet)

The plastic one feels like Calimero with Sombrero anyways.

both of the guys I talked about had their heads saved by basic plastic bike helmets.

And they were both told that without helmets, they would have certainly had skull fractures and likely serious brain damage.

Calimero with Sombrero.

I've seen several accidents where the head was broken, and the helmet not touched.

its just of use if you jump directly upwards into the ceiling.

Imagine how different those accidents would be if they were actually wearing the helmets :)

http://www.cyclehelmets.org/papers/c2024.pdf shows that in numbers the positive effect of bike helmets is next to homeopatic.
