You do not - have In-n-Out in the area. They have a policy that there has to be a distribution center for all their food within 100 miles of every store. So far, the furthest East they are is a few places in Texas... but I think they're opening up one in the Midwest now... which means they'll soon be all over there.

I'd think they're going to find it harder to compete the further East they go - but, Texas is pretty much Whattaburger territory and a fiercely loyal home-audience - and In-n-Out is evidently thriving there just like everywhere else they go.

I dont think we have any in-outs in the area.  I do know of ONE jack in the box, next town north, fairly new. ( never been )

i guess the Indian place here is now Chinese, and they split the place 1/2 and the other 1/2 is Dominos.  Doubt either last long.  ( drove past today as i took the dogs to the town up north for a walk.  Nice day, low 50s, so thought we would go someplace different )

This is correct, and what I recall hearing is that they only allow family members to run the DCs. So it's possible that someone finally went out to the midwest.

I don't know how they'd do in the northeast, but I'd sure like to have one here. Sooooooo good. Without a doubt my favorite fast food burger chain, and I can't get it here.

We have a Popeye's right here in town. I know the Popeye's vs Chick-Fil-A thing is supposed to be a rivalry, but I like them both. I don't know if I'd call the Popeye's flavors "spicy" so much as "highly seasoned." My daughter likes her food plain plain plain, but she gobbles down Popeye's chicken and cajun fries.

I 'think' i went to a Popeye's once some 25 years ago with a GF, and i think it was spicy..  but i know that is relative, and i dont like spicy foods at all so i might be overly sensitive to spice levels.  She lived up in town, where you could find them so its plausible. I forget why we went there, and im not 100% sure that is what it was.. But i think it was, and if i remember right we had some sort of issue .. Been too long and so insignificant to remember details.

But, i have heard more than once it is..  so i donno.

I've never heard that about the distribution centers. I mean... I suppose ultimately a member of the family may be responsible for each region - but I doubt they're directly overseeing all day-to-day operations on site, even at the DCs.

Popeye's is pretty ghetto. They've got a reputation for the cashiers assaulting customers - that isn't undeserved. I see them as very different than Chick-Fil-A - and more in competition with KFC. They have a spicy menu that has good heat for a fast food place, where usually spicy is pretty damn mild - and they offer packets of Louisiana hot sauce - basically tabasco - but with a smoky flavor - so you can easily dial the heat up on their sides. For example, I'll drop 2 to 4 packets of tabasco into my red beans and rice - where Tabasco has a "drop will do you" motto that most people find accurate. Heat has become like horsepower though - with people chasing insane scoville scores on their hot sauces. I have an upper limit. If it makes me feel like my throat is going to shut - it is too hot. Sometimes I want watering eyes, runny nose, and beads of sweat on my forehead, though.

I'd say Caines and Chick-Fil-A more directly compete with one another. Neither actually serves chicken PARTS... like a drumstick, wing and thigh box with sides.

They're both more "chicken strips, nuggets and sandwich" places.

Popeyes has seafood options.

KFC pretty much only hangs on in retirement communities in the West.

We have plenty of them around here.   I drive past them often, but rarely go, as they quality has gone down hill ( as i was mentioning )

And in Asia. They are going gangbusters over there. KFC has more restaurants in China than in the US, and more restaurants-per-capita in Japan than anywhere else by far.

In Japan, eating KFC on Christmas is a big tradition. I don't know why.

As far as I'm concerned they can keep them. They've declined, a lot.

YES!  This is quite a hilarious backstory.  Basically, when KFC-JP had a genius CEO (I think he was CEO) they decided to make an ad campaign that describes Americans as enjoying a bucket of KFC and a cake.  Just like what happened with Coca-Cola and the Christmas Polar Bears, it became a cultural thing.  Someone who didn't explain it purely from memory can probably explain it better, so here's a link to an article about it: https://theculturetrip.com/asia/japan/articles/why-does-japan-eat-kfc-at-christmas/

Well, we've got to admit that the Japanese secular picture of Christmas isn't any more brain-damaged than the American secular picture of Christmas. Both are pretty far-fetched from the Christian gospel.

Even though I am a pretty hardcore Christian I'd rather celebrate Diwali ... they get to blow stuff up.

Preferably the bowels of Hell.

They keep finding their way into our living space; I got stung once. My father has been swatting them left and right. He set off two bug bombs in the attic but they still keep coming.

We plan to call the exterminator tomorrow.

Sounds like something is there that is attracting them.  That needs to be dealt with or all the killing in the world wont prevent it from happening again.

Even better - leave the attractant in place and satisfy your murderous predator instinct.  Feels good.

The nest is harmless. It's the insects who live there which you have to worry about.
