Missile silos have been turned into homes all over. There is one for sale in NY, only $750,000
http://www.missilebases.com/adironback

Nice because the temperature is consistent, bad because I like seeing daylight.

Bad because we're going to need those missile silos again someday.

I think most of those silos were outdated and obsolete in the 70s. Too small to handle the new and improved bigger better nuclear bombs.
The NY state silos worked in conjunction with Plattsbugh and Griffiss air force bases, both of which have been decommissioned.

...and now for something completely different....

Everyone ready for the hurricane this weekend?

No but we're ready for the hurricane *this* weekend! :)

(Will this be a yearly event?)

I suppose we have to make the assumption that AlGore(tm) is *pissed* that Obama is trailing in the polls so he's turning his Evil Weather Machine on the East Coast in retaliation. As everyone knows, hurricanes cause global warming (all those people running their generators) !!

I didn't think we'd still have power this late in the evening, but I like that we do. It's like a snow day tomorrow but scarier. And I don't think we're actually expecting snow. I bungee corded all my plants to the sides of the deck and brought in the bicycles and kids toys and garbarge cans. And bought some water.

Still quiet here, but very cloudy. My neighbor who I purchased that CR-V from (see Score thread) was suppose to leave on Tuesday. The
airline called and asked her to reschedule for Thursday. At this point from the prediction maps I am not sure which is worse. I don't know
if she would have been able to get out on Tuesday just ahead of the storm, but I am not sure if she will be able to get out after the storm
if there is a lot of damage and power outages.

Comin' in like El Nino! We've had some coastal flooding already. I've heard that the storm will KILL PEOPLE AND KNOCK DOWN TREES.

There will NOT be any snow in the NYC/Uncensoredland area. That's gonna be restricted to the Appalacians of West Virginia and that area.

Looks like Battery Park is going to be fully submerged. And I guess the subway system is going to get flooded. Bad time to live underground in New York.

Quite a bit of rain here, and some wind, but I expect the worst will arrie tonight.

By now, it should have hit land.

Very high winds and a lot of rain here. Still have power, heh, but it did wobble a little.

Lost power for a while (which meant no sump pumps!), lost half a tree....in several pieces, and was certain several times that I must have already been halfway to the Emerald City.  Also had to go out with my neighbor and drag away the limbs of said tree because they were threatening to poke out my windows during 75mph gusts!  So definitely wet and wild for a while - but still, probably nothing compared to the Mouse House, Ragnar's, and Aahz-land.

Hope you guys - and the rest of our UCGers in the mid-east - are faring ok!

Still have power (which is amazing), although we're not out of the woods yet.

Can't see outside, since it's still dark right now, but I expect the trees have a lot less leaves than yesterday.

The power wobbled quite a bit over the night, but stayed on. Normally, if someone sneezes the power goes out, so I'm amazed.

Hope everyone else is doing well. The center of the storm has not made its turn north up to us yet. We had a lot of gusts last
night and some rain but nothing serious so far. The piles of leaves are still piles of leaves, there isn't many branches in the
yard and the hornet's nest is still in the tree in the front yard. We are having a break now as the sun is out and there are very
few clouds.

Survived, but we have no internet access at home and my office is without power. Camping out a friend's for a couple of days to work remotely.

It got interesting for a while: our back yard flooded in about 8" of water from the Long Island Sound, but no damage to the house, no water inside.

Glad you made it through!
