You can even blog from the text client and/or leave comments from the
text client with the <R>eply command. It's pretty cool.
Do I have to be interesting? Or would that be counter to the spirit of the blog concept?
Mi Aug 17 2011 00:30:33 EDT von IGnatius T FoobarI think we're at a point now where we can begin experimenting with Citadel hosted blogs. Would any of you care to be among the first guinea pigs and start blogging here?
Admittedly it's brand new so it isn't exactly feature rich -- just the brass tacks, really: blog posts, with the ability to leave comments. But it does have a seamless flow within the rest of the site (if you choose to make your blog visible to the rest of the site, of course). You can even blog from the text client and/or leave comments from the text client with the <R>eply command. It's pretty cool.
please point us the way to the hamster weel a little more detailed ;-)
btw, when in webcit creating the new room, 'blog' switches visibility to private, which is obviously wrong...
so how 'd you do it? create a blogs floor, and everybody creating a room there?
how's the public access?

You don't have to be all that interesting. :) Right now I just want to see it work.
A blog on Citadel is just a room that is created with the "Blog" view. In this mode, only the blog owner can post top-level messages; everyone else can only post comments (replies), so we have to set you as the room aide before you can actually write in your blog. We'll adjust this later.
If the blog is a hidden room, it will be invisible to the rest of the site, except to the users who know its name. Just like any other hidden room, once you find it, it appears in your known rooms list. However, for the outside world, anyone who knows the correct URL can go there.

I'm interested in the blog idea.
Ok, anyone interested in starting a blog here on Uncensored, leave me a mail with the name of the blog and whether you want it visible to users of the rest of the site by default.

I have never understood the attraction of an ocean cruise as a vacation.
Part of this is the indelible association I make between cruise ships and
food poisoning, I suppose.
Anyway, I stumbled on this Harper's article from January 1996 by David Foster Wallace, who underwent a weeklong cruise with much the enthusiasm that he would undergo a colonoscopy.

Just got accused of using twitter on Sabbath. It's called timed tweets, people.
(For work. I don't tweet much for my own purposes. I kinda don't find it that useful anyway)

You can have a bad time skydiving too.
Until you've had a good cruise trip yourself, it's hard to form a real opinion on.

I said "part." It just doesn't hold much attraction for me. Most of the activities touted as benefits are things I don't enjoy, and I particularly dislike the sensation of being trapped in one location with a bunch of people I may or may not like. It's a pretty darned big location, but I'd hate to get out a ways and discover that it's not big enough.
