and unusable letters."

Ever seen the movie "War Games"? We are a super secret government technology site that controls the nuclear missiles. You
obviously hacked your way into here. Now it is up to you to find the game that launches the missiles.

The best thing about War Games was how many people suddenly became computer
experts as soon as they left the theater.
Worse was that all of our parents who had didn't even realize we had modems
suddenly wanted to really know what we were doing with our computers.
And of course if your computer education began in 1983 with the movie "War
Games" then it probably continued with the TV series "Whiz Kids" which began
the same year.
My online adventures were well under way at that point. Doing things illegal wasn't really on the radar but my dad really couldn't grok the concept of a hobbyist BBS. He was certain that we were going to get an online services bill from Sherwood Forest ][.

heh, my mom had about the same opinions to reject DSL (after I moved out...) because of she was awaiting the extra cost...
now that my dads overview of the screen content declines, they arive. he got trapped twice by those typical online forgeries like downloads.com, and once managed to _sell_ something on amazon he intended to buy. wtf?
When we got our first computer, my mom learned just enough that she actually understood what my siblings were doing (I wasn't in kindergarten yet when we got our first computer.)
On the other hand, my parents kept the computer in their room for the first couple of years. I think they were worried that my brother might not sleep if it was available all night. Some things never change :)
