the children, yes.

I was doored because of the crying child on the back seat.

I guess car driving is more boring in general than riding on two weels; regardless whether with or without an engine.

Many of the dangers of motorcycles are common with bikes. Very few of them derive from the motorcycles ability to accellerate faster.

Well, I only drive slower stuff. I'm not into hopped up bikes that can go ridiculous (IMO) speeds. The cycle I have goes 85mph max, and that's if you're tucked on the highway and get a good 10-20 second start. Even then, it's dangerous to go anything over 70mph without a windshield, and the speed limit all over PA is 65mph, so there's no reason for these 1300cc bikes that can go 150mph. The mopeds top speeds are 25-30mph, depending on the model and I mostly ride that around town, and I take the cycle on extended trips. But... sometimes I do get cocky and take the moped on long journeys, like yesterday I went 30 miles to Hershey, PA and drove around 30-40 miles in that area and back. So, a full tank of gas on a moped, haha. 8 hours worth of driving, probably going to take a break from long rides for a week or two.

when I was in college, I had a friend who had a 50cc scooter (i.e. looked like a scooter, not a moped). I don't know quite how fast it could go, but he avoided taking it on highways as much as possible. He lived in Tel Aviv, and if he left the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, he borrowed a car or took a bus.

Saved him a fortune, b/c he worked and studied like 5-10 miles from home, and his GF (me) lived another 5 miles in a different direction. In Tel Aviv, you get maybe 10 days of bad rains - those days, he'd take a bus. The problem is that even though there's tons of public transit in Tel Aviv, but there are places 5 miles away that take over an hour to get to... :( There was a mall that was a 10 minute drive from me, and getting there took 2 busses and over an hour.

Oddly, now that I live MUCH farther away, I have a train that goes almost exactly there, and takes about 70 minutes.

+1 for the motorcycle thing... When you're on a little teeny vehicle
that nobody's looking for, it really does make you a better driver.

And it'll make you realize just how bad drivers really are.

Yeah, I work about 5 miles from my job. So I save a fortune riding 2 wheeled engines wherever I go. I ride all year long. Love it only spending like 80 cents a week to commute, haha!

Amen to riding on two wheels and realizing how shitty everyone else is. :passes brew:

I guess I missed out on the opportunity to become a motorcycle owner during my mid life crisis. Now I'll have to wait until I'm 50.

It's better when it's not a mid-life crisis because nothings worse than some 40-year-old Harley poser. Just get some small 400-500cc commuter bike. Those are even enough to get on the highway ife you really wanted.

I rather enjoyed the 550cc bikes that I had back in the 90s. I'd love another, or maybe up to a 750 or so...I don't think I need much bigger than that unless I'm riding something like a Goldwing.

I respect the 1976'ish era Goldwings, but I don't like them now with all that fairing, boombox radios, and all other kinds of silly shit I see on them.

Hello new people, allow me to repeat: die in a car fire.

An interesting greeting considering the current topic ;)

Here's a thing about the biker issue.

I used to ride a bicycle a lot, I've never forgotten what it was like on busy roads. I always (weather in my car, or my truck) give cyclists, and motorbikers plenty of room, I'll even hang back in traffic to make sure I get the room to pass wide.

Sadly this week has proved to be something of a bitch, and the irony is that partly thru' my own fault (by way of insufficient observation) I was hit by a 20 tonne fork lift truck, causing some cosmetic damage to my beautiful red rig :( I was not distracted by anything, I just didn't see it coming until the last second, and BUMP! But it could have been much worse.

Oh, that's awful, arabella!

Glad it wasn't worse, though.
