Usually learning something new is my buzz... I'll pick out a song and hit Youtube and spend a week absorbed in mastering it. Did that with "The Kids Aren't Alright" recently. Can play *and* sing it - a first for a song.

But... the *apathy* right now... I can't pick something I want to do. I guess - maybe I am depressed. I don't *feel* depressed. Just apathetic.

I get it, boredom does not sit well with me either. Too much idle time and I start getting depressed really quickly.

I have dogs for that. I get too much behind the curve, they are there and always want to do something.

Well that was fun.    Went out to bring in one of the cats.  He was there crouched and stalking a squirrel up on the fence ( like he could do anything squirrel was larger than him :)  )   So i gave him a minute or two to get his butt in the house.   But as i stood there in the door waiting, one of the humming birds flew over, and hovered in my face for a moment.. Not too close, not too far.. just 'there'... Then peeped 2x times then flew off.

Not sure if i was being told off or told hi...

I can relate. I think I have ADHD though. Too much idle time for me and I start thinking of doing things like hooking a truck tire inner tube to my air compressor in the back yard until it ultimately bursts. The explosion and resulting shock wave are very impressive to say the least. Louder than any fireworks I've had in my possession.

Then, I think... '' 'better not..."  so I got my hands on one of those 3d home design suites and have started to plan a complete remodel of our vacation home in the Poconos.

THEN... I think, once the remodel is complete, will I even care? Are there larger inner tubes to explode that I have not yet discovered?

Horses do that for me. Dogs work very well, but there is a key difference: with dogs, you have to hug them; with horses, they hug you (and rock you and bite your head and maul you. With love.)

I bought a course for Blender from Udemy. Going to work my way through that, I think - maybe start making 3D content.

Blender does have a huge learning curve, so dont get discouraged.

I was using it back when you still had to pay, and it fit on a 1.44mb floppy. I have a first edition manual ( pretty useless in a practical sense now with all the changes over the decade ) and license key, both signed by Ton. ( the license was a work of art with a number on it. not just a piece of paper )

LOL at Ig.

Yeah. I know Hexagon, Carrera and DAZ3D and a couple of other applications - so I'm not a complete noob with 3D design and rendering - but I installed Blender and I was like...

"I'm going to need some practical tutorial on this thing to get going."

Would like to start making some money off 3D content. I've got a lot of time to learn it... so - might as well put in some time and see if I can make some product.

I went from Truespace to Amapi3D to Blender.. Dabbled in Rhino3D. Won a couple of awards with Truespace.   TS was a huge learning curve too as it was just 'wierdl'. But once you got the hang of it....

And a short stent on developing my own nurbs modeler, that never quite worked out.  ( similar to what Nurbana ended up being, until it vanished off the face of the earth )

Of course before those fancy GUI tools, i did it the hard way, with Povray, Radiance, Rayshade..

I resisted it all for a long time. "Digital art isn't art..."

Whatever. I got over it. It is now another tool in my toolbox and I've used 3D rendering in traditional mixed media art and graphic design several times.

I agree it does not replace traditional art, but i have always felt it had its place.

I now think it *can*. It is a legitimate art form - where people can create something from nothing.

But it depends on how you're using it to a certain extent. If you're creating content from scratch - there is artistry involved. If you're just posing figures and objects - it is basically playing with dolls, setting up still life photographs.

But even as a posing and perspective tool, it is useful as a tool for traditional media. Instead of a ball joint model - I'll use 3D objects to mock up a charcoal sketch. Because I can't afford having a live model come to my home studio - and that feels a little creepy, anyhow. :)

Back when i was still learning Truespace, early 90's. "Painting" on the wall was done in Bryce 3D. Experimentation with lighting mostly.

( nearly everything from back then was lost.  i had this out on my hosting server with a couple of other thumbnails.  Lesson learned that summer: take 2 backups before you erase  your drive.  Tape restore failed. Gone. everything :( )

This one didnt turn out too bad either. Experimenting with using Bryce again, but this time to create terrain maps to import into Truespace.

Ah, the good old days.

I may have Bryce, too. Daz owns them all now, and basically gives them away and hasn't updated them in eons. Those are nice. Bryce does Landscapes that are almost photographic, Carerra is best at clouds and skies...

DAZ models people, objects, cars - like Poser.

Bryce and Carerra MAKE content - DAZ basically is more for creating images from content, now.

There is a 'poser' extension of sorts for Blender.

Used to be called 'makehuman' i think. Was well loved in the community then suddenly the dude just vanished and took his repository with him.  Being GPL, some people had a recent clone of the code, and forked.  I'll have to dig up the name/url as its been a while.
