The plate doesn't bother me either. It's the ligaments and tendons, which are still so stiff and so shortened that it feels like it's taking forever to get back to normal (or whatever's going to be the new normal).

I don't play field sports, I don't ski, but I'd like to be able to get back on my bicycle or putter around the yard with a chainsaw without feeling like I'm going to injure myself again.

@LS - Come to think of it, how is the Penguin?  Is she still in
Canada?

Don't know, we haven't been on speaking terms since 2004-2005. She wanted a clean break. She got it. *shrug*

Gotta be careful what we ask for sometimes.  Her loss.  ;-)

@IGgy, Yeah, I know the feeling.  When they readjusted my left knee in 1998, I was supposed to do both of them...but it was such an awful recovery I never went back.  It still aches when it's cold, hot, or wet...and I can't kneel thanks to screws and scar tissue.  One thing I'd recommend watching for is ongoing hip or back pain. With the ACL repair and move of the kneecap, my leg apparently shortened by some infintisimal amount that they have difficulty quantifyin....but enough to through my left hip out of alignment from my right.  But the rest of it did eventually get better.  Just took a really long time.

@LH: maybe, maybe not. She had some physical health issues. Might have needed someone who was a bit more willing to take care of her. It was starting to seem like a bit more than I'd signed up for.

@LS:  That happens sometimes.  It's not just the people that have to be compatible - circumstances play a huge role, too....for bad or good.

I would be very grateful if someone would invent/develop Rednax.

RE: Cheese & Eggs...

There's conflicting information on this, but some of it might simply be old.
I dunno.

I haven't really stopped eating cheese with my meals, just careful about not consuming much of it. The eggs are a tad more worrisome to me, though, but if I were safe to eat them with avocado, I think breakfast might be more entertaining than just oatmeal.

Not that my oatmeal is terrible... mix in some applesauce, sliced almonds, flax seeds, and blueberries, and it's both healthy and tasty.

I hope your knees have been recovering well, though.

The software, the magazine, or the toothbrush? This being the H&W room I'm guessing you're talking about the toothbrush. I've heard of it but I don't know anyone using it.

Oh, that's a neat idea.

The Tandem Toothbrush. Both you and your partner can brush your teeth together with an intimacy altogether lacking in today's oh-so-busy world.

I resisted viewing that JPEG until now.

That image isn't as terrible as my imagination.

Which makes me wonder if I'm perhaps badly damaged in a special way.

Good thing.

Around the 25th, a Sunday, I started feeling pretty bad... aches and pains, like I was working up to a fever. The next day, I felt decidedly bad, and called sick.

The symptoms felt like flu... aches & pains, a bit dizzy, generally feeling like crap.

Tuesday didn't feel any better, so I went to the doctor. She gave me a prescription for tamiflu, and scraped the inside of my nose to test for the flu.

I took one dose that day, and did start to feel a bit better.

Wednesday, I took another dose of tamiflu in the morning, and still felt like I might be getting better. Then, I took another one in the afternoon.
Things went south. I saw myself starting to break out... I thought maybe I was having a reaction to the tamiflu, because you can get hives from it, and all the other terrible symptoms I felt. I tried to call my doctor, but couldn't get through.
I sent e-mails that didn't get answered. That evening, I went to the emergency room, and explained what had happened.

"The tamiflu isn't causing this," this doctor said, "I tried looking for this kind of reaction, and tamiflu's hives look different from this. No, this is chickenpox."

Da-fuq?

She prescribed this other pill that I have to take five times a day, or I dread to think what might happen. I went through days of agonizing itchiness, bafflement, and high-fever torture before finally getting to a place where I can sleep at night again.

At one point, probably because of the anti-itchiness medicine (which had more of a hallucinogenic effect than anything useful) I couldn't quite work out if I was supposed to be using my phone to set up an augmented reality application so I could distract my mind from its madness so I could get some sleep. These were the kinds of confusion my sleep-deprived, fevered brain mulled about while my body grew red spots all over itself in some very bad immitation of a dalmation.

I will say, as a consequence of this disease, I managed to get an appearance that looks Hollywood-worthy without the use of any makeup whatsoever.

My voice sounds like what I expect to sound like in 50 years if someone artificially kept me alive against reason, but I can still speak. I look like hell, but hell hasn't accepted me yet, so I still walk the earth. I've quaranteed myself to prevent anyone else from getting this, which kinda sucks, because part of me would love to leap out of bushes and scare the shit out of children.
