Subject: site status

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

so i noticed this week that the site was not in the best of shapes as links were broken en all but i was curious about how it was doing currently cause i still find a few links (rarely mind you) that are broken or give a blank page, like the getting started guide which i think is kinda needed for the software to be 'run' properly.

i am asking as i forgot a few things which i know are in the guide i mentioned

hope to have a response soon

I was just thinking about that and looking at documention systems last night.  Until the issue is fixed you can use Google site search:

<keyword> site:citadel.org

then take the "cached" link option from the results. It's on a little pull-down thing on the link, may not be as visible on a phone.

thanks for the quick response and will do so in the mean time, hope that the site wasn't hit too hard although it did look pretty bad

Subject: Send Mail Help

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I just set up a mail server on my Pi yesterday and am having some trouble sending out emails.  Everything works internally, and I can receive emails externally, but my sent emails never make it out.  I've verified that the port isn't being blocked by my ISP, but am pretty new to this and am not sure what to troubleshoot.  I took a look at some logs, and this is what I've been getting:

citserver[2024]: smtpclient: smtp_attempt_delivery(131, email@example.com)

citserver[2024]: smtpclient: trying smtp://gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com/mail.example.com

citserver[2024]: smtpclient: libcurl returned 7 (Couldn't connect to server) , SMTP response 0

citserver[2024]: smtpclient: recp: <example@email.com> , result: 421 (Domain service not available, closing transmission channel)

Does any one have any suggestions that could help me get this working?

Thanks so much!

Subject: Connection Response Time

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm setting up Citadel on my raspberry pi for which is in a test environment. The client device sending the email requires that the server respond within 10 seconds that it is ready to receive. In my testing citadel responds just after that time period but the connection is already closed by the client. Is there anyway to speed up the time that citadel responds?

In the meanwhile this is worked on, just curious, are there still
plans to support the 'collaboration' functions in Citadel, such as
calendar and address books?

Yes. These are being completely overhauled as part of a substantial rework of WebCit that is underway. The current WebCit is receiving bugfixes only because it's 22 years old and has turned into spaghetti. The new WebCit is being built as a REST and DAV focused platform with modern client-side web framework. Expect to see significant improvements in the calendar and address books.

I use it only to read the Emails from my ISP and store it localy, now
i noticed that all PDF attachments are broken.

Is that a known issue ore any solution available?

Can you post steps to reproduce the error?

Since the Citadel software has wiki rooms we could actually run www.citadel.org *on* Citadel; the only thing stopping us is the substantial effort it would take to move the site and its knowledge base over.

I know you said you checked to make sure the port wasn't blocked, but that error message seems to say otherwise.

Have you checked to see if you can connect to gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com on port 25? Also try a recipient other than GMail. Google are right bastards about what they'll accept and what they won't.

Shoot, I did, but I realize now it's because I was VPN'd into my work.  Closed the VPN and nope, port was blocked. Thanks for the help!

Good Day everyone,

I hope I posted this in the right section for posts. I usually do not like bothering people but I hit a wall I cannot pass. i have been trying to log into a basic email server I have setup using a tutorial that did not work correctly, My problem is every time I log in, it accepts the username and password but loops back to the login screen. i tried everything I can think of. I feel like I am missing something and I apologize for my lack of experience but I would like it if someone could help, thank you in advance and have a good day.

sincerely,

We moved www.citadel.org to a new web server and it's running nginx instead of apache, so there could be a few issues there. I've fixed a couple of broken pieces but if you can point out anywhere there's still a problem I'd be grateful.

Since the Citadel software has wiki rooms we could actually run www.citadel.org *on* Citadel; the only thing stopping us is the substantial effort it would take to move the site and its knowledge base over.

well since you asked to point them out let me give you every links i found (BEFORE!! you even start let me say this, i say broken but the links DO take me to a page in citadel BUT once i get to those pages they are empty except for the back ground, logo, search bar and navigation buttons that (i amuse) every citadel page has):

In the meanwhile this is worked on, just curious, are there still
plans to support the 'collaboration' functions in Citadel, such as
calendar and address books?

Yes. These are being completely overhauled as part of a substantial rework of WebCit that is underway. The current WebCit is receiving bugfixes only because it's 22 years old and has turned into spaghetti. The new WebCit is being built as a REST and DAV focused platform with modern client-side web framework. Expect to see significant improvements in the calendar and address books.

Thanks very much for the information!

If I may, and just for when devs have time to take a look at this stuff, I'd like to summarize the few issues I have seen so far with Citadel calendar. Just as easy reference FWIW.

When creating an event in Webcit calendar, in the attendees tab, adding users doesn't seem to work. I expected Citadel user list to be full with the user list, of course, but it is empty. Only current user's personal contacts appear.
Oh, and even when saving the event with a personal contact, the attendee doesn't get saved.
There may be other non-working attendee-related stuff, but that may be just redundant by now...

In another thing, I also tried the lightning and synckolab connectors with latest Thunderbird, which is 52.7 as of now.
Synckolab installed but did not start. Perhaps it got very outdated, and I tried downloading from both mozilla addons and gargan's websites. A comment from the developer made me think this may be getting abandoned:
https://github.com/corinis/synckolab/issues/8

Finally, there's something funny with Webcit calendar's day view. The event seems graphically out of phase with its actual hour. I attached a screenshot.

Well, again, thanks for your attention.

Subject: Number of users exceeded

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I am suddenly getting error messages that indicate the number of users is more than allowed. Trying to open with Webcit:

This server is already serving its maximum number of users and cannot accept any additional logins at this time. Please try again later or contact your system administrator.

Mozilla Thunderbird is also totally confused connecting , unable to send emails.

Have I been compromised? I am using a Debian server. Any clues as to what is going on?
