Making a post for each question because I read this was better for clarity.

At first I thought it was enabled for this Citadel board precisely, but after installing it on my own I realized the function of anyone in the world connecting to a Citadel server being able to create themselves a new user is there.

Is this a native feature of Citadel?

Is there a way to disable this function, so say, only logged in administrator user can create users?

Nevermind. Found out how to.

Can someone delete previous message please? That was an error.

Thu Feb 15 2018 08:10:16 PM EST from bobdoe @ Uncensored Subject: Wiki room usage

So created a wiki room for testing. I first got the "there's no wiki home, click edit to edit it" message. So I did. Now I have a wiki home page.

But is this really ALL Citadel wiki rooms are? A wiki room is just and only just one page?

IIRC a wiki is only useful precisely for documentation purposes, implying several pages, with hyperlinks among them, etc. Not asking an entire wikipedia neither, but just something basic but useful.

Only way to have multiple wiki pages is creating multiple separate wiki rooms?

@IGnatius T Foobar:

Hope you could wander back here in the support room, many users still need some bit of help

And please still need help with this. I already tried making sub-rooms (which doesn't work, tried creating new room with name "existing room\subroom" or "[existing room]\subroom"; none worked).

Citadel's docs mention "wiki and blog engines" as part of features, but suriously always like this: wiki and blog always paired. I already saw both functions seem to be hard-related to each other in Citadel engine. Why?

Can someone help understanding *what* wikis are in Citadel? Is it not what I thought, multiple wiki pages linked by hyperlinks? Is a wiki in Citadel just a poor template to fill a blog's entries one by one?

Apologies, accidentally posted before I was done constructing the
message. I'm getting the following when I start the service -
citserver[4204]: configuration setting c_port_number is not -1
(disabled) or a valid TCP-Port - check your config! Default setting
is: 504

Unfortunately this is a known error, and it has been fixed, but there are still packages being distributed that have it.

The workaround, until you're on a newer version is:

cd /usr/local/citadel
./sendcommand 'conf putval|c_port_number|504'

And then restart Citadel server.

citserver[879]: configuration setting c_default_cal_zone is empty,
but must not - check your config!

That's an old bug, but you can set your calendar zone in WebCit: Administration --> Site-wide configuration --> General --> Default timezone for unzoned calendar items

Set it to your local time zone.

By the way, the error is a nuisance but it won't usually impact the operation of Citadel server.

So I found a pattern. Any mail server that uses Google's (spam
checker?) doesn't like email form my host.

One frustrating thing about the transition to libcurl for SMTP transmission is that, although the code is more reliable than what we were using before, it doesn't pass back the exact error string sent by the receiving server.

One thing I would like you to check is this: does the fully qualified name of your server match the Reverse DNS that is detected for your IP address?
If not, a lot of receivers are going to think you're a spammer.

Congratulations on finding our support forum!

To create pages in a Citadel wiki room, just click the "link" button in the editor. You can create links with URLs there, but you can also create links to other pages by simply typing in a page name instead of an external URL.
When you save the page, clicking on that link will display a message telling you the page isn't found, and you will be prompted to create it.

@IGnatius T Foobar:

Thanks very much! That seems to work!

I think I already read ALL documentation and faq at citadel website, including developer and text client stuff, and this wiki usage is definitely not documented!

Even though it's evident that not many people use (or like) this functionality, it still proves to be useful at times for some environments. Perhaps you could update a bit the documentations if you have chance?

By the way, still a couple of smaller doubts:

--When enabling file directory on a room, upload and download rights can be enabled even if leaving visible folder disabled. If not visible, files cannot be uploaded or downloaded at all in the room! Does it make sense? Or only for the case when using text client?

--How can a user access his or her instant messages history in webcit? Or is it possible only if using an external chat client?

--Subrooms inside rooms don't seem to work; tried creating new room with name "existing room\subroom". Even tried with brackets "[existing room]\subroom". It appears just as a plain additional room at floor level along with the other rooms, instead of a room inside the specified room.

--Do you no longer make use of the freenode irc channel?

Hello,

We have a citadel mail server running on out company and its the companies main mail server. Last weekend we had to move the server from one location to another and also change the IP address of the server. After shutting it down and then bringing it up again i was not able to log on to the mail server again. It showed an error message "This program was unable to connect or stay connected to the Citadel server. Please report this problem to your system administrator."

I checked the running services on my machine and I noticed that the citadel server was running 2 times under root user, but from what i read online I see that the service should start one time as root and one time as citadel user.

Please if you could assist me with that we as have lots of company emails there and nothing is working right now.

Kind regards and thank you in advance!

Subject: EasyInstall Failure

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have a new system which only has been recently gotten its copy of Fedora 27. I went and did Fedora's updates and installed the requirements for CItadel as well as the openldap-devel package which was not in the development tools. Then I ran the EasyInstall for Citadel and everything was fine until the part where it connects via socket. The install says that citadel-admin.socket is missing. How do I fix this since I have no way of getting a copy of a file the installer is supposed to have.

Subject: Web-interface login stuck at 'please wait'

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi there,

Over the last 2 weeks I've been trying to read up on how to install a mailserver on Raspbian. I discovered that citadel was a good way to go. Only I've run into a few problems while installing citadel. Some I've been able to solve and some of them not, i'll list them below:

Do note I've been able to reproduce every error/quirk whatever by installing raspbian fresh and doing it over.

- After installation the first error you usually get is: citserver[1374]: configuration setting c_default_cal_zone is empty, but must not - check your config!

This can be solved by just inputting the timezone manually (even though it's entered through the interface of Raspbian before) by doing: sudo sendcommand "CONF PUTVAL | c_default_cal_zone|Europe/Amsterdam"

So that was out of the way. Then I tried login into the webinterface by going to 192.168.188.36:80 or :443 for https.

I got there fine but when I entered the admin account information: admin/password. It doesn't do anything. It just for a millisecond goes to please wait and then you get the login boxes again. Now if you press login 5/6 times it goes to 'please wait' to infinity.

I've tried adding new users to see if those would work but also no.

Also I've tried via the sudo /usr/lib/citadel-server/setup to reset it and force it that way but no luck.

At this point I can't find through google or whatever means to find the solution so I turn to you. Many thanks in advance and I look forward to fixing this :)

Yorick

This message indicates that your browser connected to WebCit, but WebCit was unable to connect to Citadel Server. This generally indicates one of two things:

1. Citadel Server is not running. (Start it up!)

2. If you changed your IP address, then perhaps WebCit was configured to connect to Citadel at the old IP address. Check your WebCit startup script and see if that's the case.

citadel-admin.socket is created automatically when Citadel Server starts up.

If your citserver is not running, start it manually if you have to.

Great explanation on how the socket file works. How do I manually start citadel? I cannot find any paperwork on the start commands and sadly this server system is the first one that runs Linux here.

Hello

Thanks for your reply.

As I said the citadel server starts 2 processes under the root user and also if i try systemctl status citadel it shows that the service is up and running.

I also checked the webcit config file and that has the ip 127.0.0.1 for the citadel-server so that means that it shouldn't cause a problem if i change the IP address of the server.

I also tried restoring the old IP back to the server, but still no luck. It shows the same error again.

If you need me to provide additional details like logs and other diagnostic messages please tell me and I will do that.

Kind Regards

thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it seems the last version supplied by
the
homueller SuSE repo which is linked in the citadel.org doku ist 824.

Is there another rpm source?

I'm not aware of another RPM source. You could switch to Easy Install, which works on all distributions, but you'll have to move your data files to another directory first.

I used the Easy Install a long time ago, but the RPM version ist much more integrated in the OpenSuSE environment, not only directory-wise but also regarding startscripts, updating etc.

Do you think you could give Mr. homueller a hint there are new citadel versions out there?

Ok, I found another OpenSuSE rpm source:

https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/stefjakobs:/citadel-testing

it does provide citadel-9.01-13.19.x86_64, I installed it although it is compiled for the tumbleweed version of OpenSuSE, not leap which is what i use.

however, my database upgrade problem still remains:

any help on this? In the meantime I fired up the old server, did a sendcommand "CULL" and retransfered all the data files ... still the same problem!
