Which citadel is installed? Latest from easy-install?

Tue Aug 15 2017 02:04:31 PM EDT from Suns @ Uncensored Subject: Notes

In my raspberry citadel installation when I create or edit a Notes during the edition it shows normal, after I press the button save it change all the spaces to +

Could not find any other character with problems.

So "Citadel is incredible" become "Cidatel+is+incredible"

I imagine this is a charset problem but everything is in utf8 I think

Yes, latest from the repository.

rpi = Citadel 8.24

linux x64 = Citadel 8.24

I tested with my linux mint 17 (so ubuntu repository) machine and got the same result of the raspberry.

Here on uncensored it works perfectly using the same browser.

I imagine that it is some configuration server side. maybe outside the citadel configuration.

looking inside the data files it can be something to do with ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE from the data files.

Searching it for a bit I got that it can convert characters and space to plus in a non standard way.

I'm using only en_US UTF8 locale.

Robinson.

I am 100% sure that citadel replaces the primary mail address with
the one stored in the ldap directory everytime a user logs in, I just
tested it with an example user.

I think bennabiy is a few steps ahead of you on that one :)

We are currently in the middle of a development cycle that addresses this exact area. We are also moving the "email addresses for this user" out of the vCard and into the user record, where it ought to be. I think the current code in git master avoids copying over the email addresses from LDAP even if you want it to. So I think we'll end up doing something where when you configure an LDAP server, you will have to be asked: Do you want email addresses configured from LDAP? (1) No, (2) On first login only, (3) every time.

Sorry for my less-than-quick response on this; I'm currently nursing a pretty bad injury and am more than a little slow right now.

Are you using the Raspbian packages, or Easy Install? For a new installation, if you have the ability to use Easy Install, please do so; it's always going to give you much newer code and updates.

I dontI has using the raspbian packages but that include a old version of the citadel system.

The repository have the version 911 in the testing branch but even using apt-pinning to update only the required packages rendered the system unusable.

I tried to use the easy-install then, and get an error in the end. the binary files for citadel server are present at /usr/local/, and I can run and configure the citadel, but as the error is before the citadel configuration easy-install dont download and configure the webcli.

end of the log -copy by hand-

make[1]: msgfmt: command not found

makefile:14: recipe for target '../../locale/ko/LC_MESSAGES/webcli.mo' failed

make ............webcit.mo error 127

recipe for target 1install-locale' failed

make error 2

Operating system: Linux Debian 8.0 ( 4.9.35-V7+ armv71)

/end of log/

So I still dont have the version 911 running in raspberry pi 3 too.

I´m getting now the "apt install gettext"

to see if I can pass this error now.

This solve the problem to use the easy install.

I would prefer that the citadel use the libraries already on the system instead of compiling everything again on a slow system. it dont check if the system library is already available.

I"m testing citadel for a home deployment of a private email server. Since I'm new, I'm rather confused on a few things. Can someone point me to some documentation that can answer these questions?

What's the purpose of mail folders?

How can mail folders be created on the web front end?

How can mail filters be created and not disappear?

How can I introduce a cert to my server so it's a trusted connection? I followed directions and it doesn't work or I'm unable to follow directions.

How can I move emails to a folder and have them actually move there?

Is this really meant for a production environment or is this really only geared to be a next-gen BBS?

Ultimately, I don't care how the interface looks if it has great functionality. At this point, it's barely workable. But fro the activity in this BBS, there are active users so maybe I'm just needing to learn.

Thanks.

Welcome! First off, it would help to know how you installed Citadel, and which version you are running. If you did not do the easy install, it is quite possible you are not running the latest version.

Well, you have a couple of choices. The debian packages take advantage of the libraries already on your system, but as has been pointed out, you will usually be running older versions of the software, and because of that we can't help you out with patches and fixes.

Easy Install always has the latest and greatest versions of everything, and when we identify a need to patch or fix something we can respond instantly, but as you point out it does carry with it its own copies of certain libraries.
A lot of commercial software does this, actually; we're just honest about it because we're not commercial software :)

If you're looking for a compromise, you could download the latest source code tarballs and compile them yourself. This would use your existing system libraries and you would be able to grab updates whenever you want to.

the receiver Mail is valid and I used several others...

This message is generated when the receiving system rejected your email.
Citadel is contacting the remote server, but the remote server is rejecting what you're sending to it. This could be caused by a couple of different things:
1. Is your domain name set properly? If the remote system thinks it's receiving mail from a rogue domain it might get rejected.
2. Are you on a commercial ISP or a consumer ISP? While commercial ISP's generally give you a clear shot out to the Internet, consumer grade services often mess with connections to port 25; they'll either filter, redirect, or reject them outright.

As a test, you can try setting a known working third party email account as a smart host.
