Subject: Re: Outbound email address?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I've got a weird problem with my Citadel install - outbound email
works perfectly well, but it uses the node name instead of the FQDN?

Any idea how I get it to use the actual FQDN - I've looked through
the FAQ/knowledgebase, checked pretty much every option but I can't
figure this out?

First, make sure that you've gone into the Administration menu then to the Domain names and Internet mail configuration submenu. In the Local host aliases section, make sure you've added any/all domains and/or FQDNs for which you want to receive mail.

Then, in your user, go to the Advanced menu and select "Update your contact information". At teh bottom, enter your primary internet email address and any additional email addresses.

Lastly, go back to the Advanced menu and Preferences and Settings submenu and select your Preferred email address.

Now, any email you send should come from user@fqdn.

Subject: pop3 collector esnds back to Return path as well

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I am trying to use citadel as a pop3 collector.

But when downloading certain emails from the pop3 site it stalls on certain emails.

It cant send to the Return-path so it registers as failed. It then keeps the email on the original server.

Upon investigation it seems to be doing this for all emails.

I have tried this with fetchmail, mpop and citadels pop3 collector - same results - citadel keeps double sending all emails.

Thanks

Hagar

Subject: The Citadel server process (citserver) terminated unexpectedly

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi I am running Citadel 8.24 with WebCit 8.24, server build 8.24 on fresh installation using a Raspberry pi on Jessie.

I have configured everything and everything works. The only thing I have noticed is that on every stop of the service (sudo service citadel stop)

I get an email

The Citadel server process (citserver) terminated unexpectedly.

This could be the result of a bug in the server program, or some external
factor.

You can obtain more information about this by enabling core dumps.

 For more information, please see:

 http://citadel.org/doku.php?id=faq:mastering_your_os:gdb#how.do.i.make.my.system.produce.core-files

If you have already done this, the core dump is likely to be found at /var/run/citadel/core.478

I have enabled ulimit on /etc/init.d/citadel
but no core files are generated under /var/run/citadel/
Any clues as to what this is and how can I get more information?

I have solved this by having to use mpop and msmtp

I found that fetchmail did not work as too sendmail and citmail did not give me as much control.

neither did the internal pop3 collector.

My .mpoprc is -

defaults
tls on
tls_trust_file /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
tls_starttls off

account mypopaccount
host mypopmailserver
user mypopusername
password mypoppassword
delivery mda /usr/bin/msmtp --dsn-notify=off --dsn-return=off --host=localhost --from='%F' -- mylocalusername

Subject: Question/Request for Referral re Data Recovery

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

We had a mail server crash (citadel 8.23). We've restored the server from a very old backup. We're trying to determine whether the mail that was processed between the time of the backup and the crash still exists in the "bad" cdb.## files we copied off the server before restoration from the backup. Below is a summary of events and the steps we took to examine the files. If that data still exists, we're looking either for suggestions on restoring or exporting that data ourselves, or for a referral to someone we can pay to do the work. Thanks.

  • The crash: it appears the /tmp partition had a fault and was mounted read only at a point that one of the big cdb files was written; our cdb.08 file is 29GB, as listed below.
  • The immediate effect was that our cdb.00, 01, 04, 05, 06 and 07 files appear to have been truncated to 8K; cdb.02 and 03 to 16K.
  • Unfortunately, and to our shame, after physically moving the server approximately a year ago, the nightly rsync backups were no longer maintained.
  • As mentioned, we restored from those backups from a year ago.
  • The old backups function fine, but we are attempting to recover, if possible the mail since then.
  • We have rsync'd out the "bad" data directory and worked on it.
  • We can place the backup set's cdb.00 thru 07 in place on another server, then copy the later version of cdb.08 up, then using citadel and the bdb utilities, we can:
  1. Do a successful db_dump... but not a db_recover (error states that the records are encrypted, but we assume it's actually stumbling on the compresssion.
  2. Do a successful db_stat on cdb.08. (below)
  3. Successfully load citadel, with all users and emails up to a year ago visible.

Notes: output of the dump, stats and various file listings appear below.

Raspbian repositories are updated automatically from the Debian repositories.
Debian packages are maintained by dothebart, so he can probably answer that better. Citadel is also moving to a rolling release cycle, so I don't know what that implies for Debian packages.

Subject: Aliases seem to not be working anymore

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello Citadel Support,

I used to be able to add aliases to email accounts by adding them in the user vCard through webcit. I don't know what happened but now when I try to edit the list of aliases it simply doesnt get updated (when I go back, the new alias is not there).

Can you give me any pointers how can I debug this and what may be happening? I'm using debian jessie.

Thanks!

Subject: Task List in 'Summary' View

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello Citadel & Folks! I'm new to Citadel but like what I see and can do with it. I have two questions, though:

1) the Summary view does not show my tasks I created, even if I assign them a due date

2) my created Notes under Citadel 8.24 with WebCit 8.24, server build 8.24 show '+' instead of 'SPACE'

What do I do wrong? Also, does the new build support CalDAV ?

Thanks!

WHen I add new mail users, I want their names to show up the the contacts list. This way their names can be easily entered into the To: field when sending email.

How do I bulk add users into the contacts list?

Thank you

Enter them into the "Global Address Book" room.

To answer one of my own questions: Even the older 8.x Version supports CalDAV in a way. Under Mozilla Thunderbird with Lightning extension, all works well. It is important to add the trailing '/' to the Room names, though. And add them as 'iCal' File.

Rainlendar does a good job as well.

e.g.:

https://your.citadel.server/groupdav/Calendar/

https://your.citadel.server/groupdav/Tasks/

https://your.citadel.server/groupdav/Roomxyz/

Hope that helps somebody in the future. ;)

That's correct; it supports a standard "icalendar" format (which basically syncs the whole calendar at once, rather than one item at a time). It works fine with Thunderbird/Lightning. We are in the process of a major overhaul of WebCit which is fundamentally built on a DAV/REST design and will support the full CalDAV/CardDAV protocols, but a finished release is some time away.

Any update to these two questions?

Also, if I create a hidden passworded room, others cannot connect to it as WebCit does not ask for a password. It works on the CLI, though.

1) Edit contact information: (Update your contact information)
change 'Display name' to your Full Name

2) Preferences and settings: (Change your preferences and settings)
change 'Preferred display name for email messages' to your Full Name

Works at least my place ...

Greetings. Just a quick question: which rpm do I download for Leap
42.1?

You can try the packages for openSUSE, but they may not work, as support is currently listed for the 12.x series, while Leap is based on 13.x.

It does not work and I figured out why, the file locations are not in the right place. The package version for 42.1 is 8.24 and in stead of being in /usr/local they are in /usr/share. So everytime you start it fails and the permissions are root:root not citadel:citadel on Opensuse.

Also the easy install fails on Opensuse 42.1 I think due  to setup with 42.1 using systemd. Not sure yet there will follow it out.
