Next time, you can try <CITADEL_DIR>/setup.

Also, set up a user for Citadel to run under, run setup to set that user as the owner, and then run "chown -R <citadel user> <CITADEL_DIR>" to make sure that it has access to all of its files.

As I noted earlier last month;  in the same situation (v9.01 on a Debian Testing system...), I ran manually ran /usr/lib/citidel-server/setup that took care of it...

Subject: Cannot delete mails using webcit

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi everybody,

for some reason, I cannot delete mails (or move them... or mark them as read...) using webcit - they just reappear when I refresh, Mails I have already read are marked as unread again. All other clients work as they should. Does anybody have an idea what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,

Denian

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello guys!

Is it possible to encrypt the traffic between the SMTP servers when using Citadel?

Could only find information regarding encryption between client and server.

From https://www.checktls.com/

Cheers!

Subject: c_port setting

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello. Instantly after installation using apt, citserver said there is a wrong value in c_port set, I shall either use a valid tcp port or -1. The thing is I cannot access it through webcit, even if I start `webcit /var/run/citadel/citadel.socket` it cannot connect. Command line client does work. Email does work, just not the connection to webcit. Although the error message says using 504, it does not bind that port. Another rather strange thing appears to me that in the webcit config proxying 8504 is mentioned. I would have just set 504 as port, but it appears that the config file /var/lib/citadel/citadel.config is binary.

Please tell me how i can proceed like getting a config file or read/write /var/lib/citadel/citadel.config so citserver is binding port 504 (then I can configure webcit to use that)

Thank you in advance!

It appears that this could be resolved through running /var/lib/citadel/setup because it asks for the port to use. Please state that in the documentation

Is there a way to tell if a room is networked in the web interface room list or from the header on top of the messages?

The installation documentation states to run "setup" upon installation, right? If so, then following the process in the documentation and paying full attention to the prompts should suffice, should it not?

I don't believe so...unless the sysop edits the room info to indicate such.

Though, truth be told, it used to be that a room had to be set as a network room, back in the day, and the room's prompt in a text session displayed a ")" (or was it "]") at the end of the room name if it was.

Nowadays, even in the text client, you can't necessarily tell if a room is networked, anymore.

The thing is, though, these constructs are reflective of 30+ year old data models that don't make sense anymore.  Citadel has a lot of that and I've been doing a lot of thinking about what other assumptions it's time to cut loose.  At its core, Citadel is about the seamless flow of attention from room to room, about the software getting out of your way as you make your way through the various content on the system.  Everything else is bookkeeping.

Subject: Citadel not listening on port 504?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

On a Debian 'stretch' system where I am testing v9.01 of Citidel (using  the 9.01-1+b1 package), Cidadel is starting up but I've found that is not listening on port 504.  Found the following in the log:

Message from syslogd@mailtst at Mar  7 15:03:55 ...
citserver[26561]: configuration setting c_port_number is not -1 (disabled) or a valid TCP-Port - check your config! Default setting is: 504

Using 'sendcommand CONF GET'  I found that it appears to be set to "0".  Tried using other 'sendcommand CONF' commands in order to try setting it (after dpkg-reconfigure had no effect) but it did not appear to work.
