sounds like you can't identify correctly with your DNS for updating it?

CVE-2016-0728 probably is also biting you anyways ;-)

Refer to my previous post please:  Unable to update using Domain name

Installed Citadel past week, was never able to update using the domain name , had to us ip address.

Today after I posted for help, someone in the sky fixed my issue and it allows update today for the first time.

I had performed update, but that's almost a daily event - haha   yikes -

I hate when things work all of a sudden and you had no clues from the clues closet.

Cheers,

Clay ~ who is now a happy hacker

Hi all!

Been a while since I got Cit set up but got it set up today on one of my static IP addresses so that I can try to run it full time alongside my DOS-based BBS.

I was wondering what I needed to do to get Citadel on the IGnet conferences?  I believe I was connected to them at one time (long, long, long ago), but cannot seem to find the documentation as to how to go about getting connected.

Subject: Citadel not working after log deletion

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi guys,

I deleted the citadel log files as they were taking up too much space (~22GB). A side effect I didn't expect is getting the following error when trying to access it using a browser:

This program was unable to connect or stay connected to the Citadel server. Please report this problem to your system administrator. Read More...

Any idea how I can recover from this without losing my settings and accounts? The logs are gone for good but the cdb.<xxx> files are still there.

I've posted this question on stackexchange as well: http://serverfault.com/questions/751702/citadel-not-working-after-deleting-log-files

Thanks for the help!

we don't use stackechange.

you mustn't manually delete berkeley db logfiles, you have to use the server settin:

Administration->Edit site-wide configuration->Automatically delete committed database logs

and let the server delete it.

I don't know whether there is a way for berkeley db to continue without them - there most probably isn't.

Hi everybody

Does anybody have an idea why my Chromium Browser asks me if I want to save the login data for Citadel but Firefox does not ?

older webcit versions had this issue due to some javascript logic the browsers didn't like.

Does it happen on uncensored too?

Thanks for the reply! Is there maybe a way to extract the settings (e.g. users and their settings) for the remaining files? That's all I'm really interested in.

Subject: Possible to run webcit as non-root user?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Was just wondering if webkit can be configured to run as non-root like citserver can.  It doesn't prompt for the option in the "setup" program, and I didn't see any command line options I could set in /etc/rc.d/init.d/webcit, but figured I would ask.

When I connect to my citadel server on port 25, I do not get the STARTTLS option, but it is present on port 587 (see transcript below).

Is it possible to get Citadel to accept e-mail using TLS on port 25?

Yes, both uncensored with its 8.29 as well as my citadel running 9.01  behave the same.
Firefox/Iceweasel don't ask Chrome/Chromium do ask.

However, there's a Firefox Extension that allows one to edit the credentials. --> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/saved-password-editor/

Subject: WebCit resetting highest message read counter?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Can anyone give me some insight into why WebCit is sending "SLRP HIGHEST" commands when I just list the messages in my Inbox?  This clears all my "unread" flags and I don't know which emails I have read and which ones I haven't.

Seems like an odd feature, am I missing something on how this is supposed to work?

Subject: letsencrypt SSL

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi and, first of all, thanks for this beautiful software. I run Apache on Debian Jessie alongside Citadel. For my Apache server, i have working letsencrypt keys which i would love to use for Citadel, too. Maybe i'm just tired, but i'm somewhat lost here. I'm able to locate those keys of course and i know where i'd have to put them for Citadel. But they're in a different format. Do i need to convert them ? Anybody who can point me to a solution here ? Thanks in advance.

webcit will drop root privileges and swap to the userid you specified with -u

The watcher process  however will remain running as root, since it may need the privileges to bind a port below 1024 when having to respawn a crashed work process.

The only permission webcit needs at runtime is either access to the citadel unix domain socket, or tcp port 504 plus read access on its static files.

this may have been due to some ancient outlook version misbehaving.

In general we encurage usage of port 587.

hm, you're probably right,

rooms.c

        if (WC->CurRoom.view != VIEW_MAILBOX) { /* dotgoto acts like dotskip when we're in a mailbox view */
                slrp_highest();
        }
^^^ should also check for VIEW_JSON_LIST
