Subject: Disabling cipher suites

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi

In order to decrypt and inspect IMAPS traffic going between clients and my citadel server, I would like to choose which SSL cipher suites are available to my server when communicating with clients. Is this possible to do somehow?

Regards

Andreas

you could use nginx as IMAPS - proxy and sniff the connection nginx<->citadel ?

Sorry if I'm not being clear. The actual decryption is done by a firewall in front of the citadel server. But the citadel server and the (in this case) iOS based client negotiates a cipher, TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA, that I am not able to decrypt. I would like to control what cipher suites are available to the Citadel server if this is possible.

Andreas

I guess you can only achieve that by patching modules/crypto/serv_crypto.c:init_ssl() creates the ssl_ctx which then is used by  CtdlStartTLS() to start an individual connection

I logged on via the web interface and I looked at the on-line user list.

On the top it says:Click on a name to read user info. Click on (p) to send an instant message to that user. Next to "(Not logged in) [4]" it has a chat option.  Does that allow me to send a chat to all the users that are not logged in?

Yes, seems awkward. It shouldn't show it there.

Subject: Re: Feature requests

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

yes, next to tls support this is probably one of the big missing features - both not easy to implement.

What about an option to use the external fetchmail? E.g. have citserver execute fetchmail (if installed) and a setting in webcit that allows to set the interval? Would be kind of work-a-round solution until implemented. But to me this is not most important since my config works good enough.

yes, you're right. this one was one of the first things that bugged me about citadel / webcit - but I had no clue how to fix it back then, fixed now.

Oh cool! Thanks! What did you change? In which release version was it introduced? Guess raspbian packages are lacking behind...

  • Option to use message as returned/modified by SpamAssassin in order to enable changes to header, subject or body as given in SpamAssassin config

What about that one? Would be very useful, since it would allow e.g. for adding "*** SPAM ***" or similar to the subject line of a message.

you can actually enable / disable syslog entries for debug logging in the Administration->Enable/Disable logging of the server components

Yes, right. That's actually nice... BUT WHAT IF if all these are unchecked and I still want to reduce logging output? ;) Actually that's related to your other comment:

can you elaborate a little bit deeper why one would want to disable sending?

http://citadel.org/doku.php/faq:spam:recover shows how to do that (in our todays case if you get to know in time that you should stop sending mails - sorry again for that ;-)

...let me give you an example: every minute I get following logging output in /var/log/syslog:

Nov  8 07:05:08 raspberrypi citserver[2082]: Network full processing in 2075 seconds.
Nov  8 07:05:08 raspberrypi citserver[2082]: SMTPCQ: processing outbound queue
Nov  8 07:05:08 raspberrypi citserver[2082]: SMTPCQ: queue run completed; 0 messages processed 0 activated
Nov  8 07:05:08 raspberrypi citserver[2082]: network: no neighbor nodes are configured - not polling.
Nov  8 07:05:08 raspberrypi citserver[2082]: No external notifiers configured on system/user
Nov  8 07:05:08 raspberrypi citserver[2082]: -- db checkpoint --
Nov  8 07:05:57 raspberrypi collectd[2262]: parse_value: Failed to parse string as derive: (null).

and basically this happens when my server is idle - if it is doing something I get more messages. What I want is: remove these (idle time) messages, since they don't look interesting to me, but fill my SD card.

So that was the origin for asking after SMTP sending (the SMTPCQ part in here). Actually I would like to get rid of all these messages (not only the 2 lines with SMTPCQ).

Thanks for your time and Greetings

Tue Oct 27 2015 16:42:17 EDTfrom DrTrigon @ Uncensored Subject: Feature requests

Hello Citadel Support!

I installed Citadel recently to my Raspberry PI where it mainly serves 2 purposes:

  • access to local system mail (e.g. coming from CRON) via WebInterface
  • fetch, filter and serve (IMAP) mails from an external POP3 account (with option to check it through WebInterface - got this thanks Citadel for free! ;)

All-in-all I am very happy with your software and have to thank you for your work! Now the reason why I am writing here is I have a need for some additional features and wanted to ask for them, respective get to know your opinion on this or whether there is an alternative solution. I want to apologize in advance in case I am using the wrong channel here or did just not find the correct solution through google.

Features requested:

  • Option to pipe Remote Retrieval (of POP3 accounts) through SpamAssassin (and other like ClamAV) as well (work-a-round by using fetchmail instead of Remote Retrieval for now)

yes, next to tls support this is probably one of the big missing features - both not easy to implement.

  • Option to use message as returned/modified by SpamAssassin in order to enable changes to header, subject or body as given in SpamAssassin config
  • Show FULL message header when pressing on "[Header]" button or may be even add button "[raw]" to display all the RAW message text to be able to see X-Spam and other headers as well

yes, you're right. this one was one of the first things that bugged me about citadel / webcit - but I had no clue how to fix it back then, fixed now.

  • Option to set level of verbosity of logging to syslog and Aide Room (citserver's -x option did not seem to have an effect, could not find the environment variables mentioned in [1]) in order to reduce log output

you can actually enable / disable syslog entries for debug logging in the Administration->Enable/Disable logging of the server components

  • Option to disable SMTP send where not needed (again could not find the environment variables mentioned in [1]) in order to reduce log output and load

can you elaborate a little bit deeper why one would want to disable sending?

http://citadel.org/doku.php/faq:spam:recover shows how to do that (in our todays case if you get to know in time that you should stop sending mails - sorry again for that ;-)

[1] http://www.citadel.org/doku.php/documentation:cmdman:citserver#environment

For me none of them are needed to have a running system, but every single one would very cool and helpful for my needs.

Thanks a lot for your nice product again. I am looking forward to see it evolve further. Greetings

DrTrigon

you can run the database_cleanup.sh script see http://citadel.org/doku.php/documentation:file_layout where to locate it.

It requires the berkeley database utilities of the same version as

ldd /usr/bin/citserver

will tell you.

It needs at least the same amount of disk space as your data/ directory, since it will dump and re-import your database.

Is this possible?

I'm having problems doing a remote retrieve to a room as well as SMTP relay.

I'm thinking it would be just easier to do a SMTP relay vs setting up MX records and all that jazz.

Or am I going about this all wrong?

IG (or whomever might look into this),

I'm currently experiencing an issue networking from dogpound2 to uncnsrd...it seems that the authentication process at uncnsrd isn't working:

I'm guessing that this might be the byproduct of something new in the code running at Uncensored, but figured I'd bring it to your attention, anyhow.

Subject: Publicly readable room?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

How can I configure a room to be publicly readable (so that no one has to log into webcit to read it?). I know that the FAQ says that this is not possible, but obviously it is being done on this site.  Is this site specially customized to allow that functionality, or have I missed something?

Thanks.

Subject: uncompress errors during purge

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

My Citadel server is set to autopurge every day - and just recently it crashes every time it tries to do so, finally failing with an uncompress() error.

Where should I start looking to fix this?

Subject: Re: citadel-suite (with easyinstall), freeradius and mysql-server

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I try to install citadel-suite (with easyinstall), freeradius and mysql-server on a raspberry pi 2 (jessie).

Is this is fresh up-to-date installation on the raspberry ? Or can you try it on such a "clean" system ?

First I'd try to get freeradius working manually because that seems the beginning of all your troubles. The rest of the log entries mostly deal with dependency issues from the package management. Therefore I was asking if that's a fresh/clean installation.

Greetings from someone in the sighting distance of OE6XCD ;-)

When I run database_cleanup.sh I get the following:

# ./database_cleanup.sh

ls: cannot access /usr/bin/db?*recover: No such file or directory

database_cleanup.sh cannot find the Berkeley DB utilities.  Exiting.

Exiting.
