Well , the lack of information on that link in giving some tips to citadel user are enormous .

Next time i hope citadel programmers do a more transparent and easy to understand layout to their release in future releases .

Also , i notice that if i close port 504 i can not get citadel running !!!!

Then i was reading somewhere that port 504 is for administrator send remote commands to citadel server .

Well , if that option is online then there is a large possibility to be hacked remotely .

actually something is not right .

even changing the webcit.css , it is possible to remove the alternatives logins by changing the value on the css :

#authbar width: 0%

but it is not possible to remove the "NEW USER Register NOW" from the login page , even by deleting that cose from the html get_logged_in.html .

What is getting me more curious is that i reboot the server , and i check out the webcit html page i changed , and the html was not changed by the reboot of the system and the automatic startup citadel services .

So , if the /usr/share/citadel-webcit/static/t  is the main server startup directory , then where is server reading the alternative get_logged_in page with that code (that i can see when i open the webcit in net browser) , if the page was no changed by citadel parsing system like you told before .

what exactly are you missing?

Its open source. If you send a better version, we will consider that. Else it will remain the way its now.

You can use port 504, you can also use a unix domain socket.

see http://citadel.org/doku.php/documentation:cmdman:webcit for details.

Port 504 requires authentication for most calls, as does the http interface.

Wow, is Citadel really an active project?

Can it be installed on FreeNAS?  Are there any instructions to
install it on FreeNAS?

Yes, Citadel is an active project. It has been a little while since a major release but development is active. The next release will not focus on new features but instead reduce Citadel's footprint on the host filesystem -- which ought to make it easier to deploy on things like FreeNAS.

The included utilities (setup, migrate, etc) use a unix domain socket, not port 504.

Also, if your end user clients (text or web) are running on the same host as citserver, port 504 is also not needed.

More information on the website structure and how it works , because it does not depends only on css configurations from the webpages . I remove pages from the server and it still shows them to after rebooting !!!

Yes , thank you for making the project open source , the project itself is very good and i have to thank Citadel programmer for all the hard work on it . It is very complete .

But it could be more simple to understand , and a change in the main site structure , such htmls , should affect the website , and it does not affect at some point , witch make me think that on server restart the basic html structure is been read from anywhere else but not static page .

The way i fixed this was creating a firewall rule that drop every attempt of connection to that specific port (for security) .

However , if in setup i disable that port then it will not be possible to run citadel , but this is not an issue .

I want to remove the "new User registration" from login  , because in my case i dont need that option , and i am unable to do it , even editing the html everything stays the same .

However citadel 7.83 was possible to do that , but i changed to 8.24 because 7.83 was having problems on opening the website under ssl credentials .

Subject: Feature requests

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello Citadel Support!

I installed Citadel recently to my Raspberry PI where it mainly serves 2 purposes:

  • access to local system mail (e.g. coming from CRON) via WebInterface
  • fetch, filter and serve (IMAP) mails from an external POP3 account (with option to check it through WebInterface - got this thanks Citadel for free! ;)

All-in-all I am very happy with your software and have to thank you for your work! Now the reason why I am writing here is I have a need for some additional features and wanted to ask for them, respective get to know your opinion on this or whether there is an alternative solution. I want to apologize in advance in case I am using the wrong channel here or did just not find the correct solution through google.

Features requested:

  • Option to pipe Remote Retrieval (of POP3 accounts) through SpamAssassin (and other like ClamAV) as well (work-a-round by using fetchmail instead of Remote Retrieval for now)
  • Option to use message as returned/modified by SpamAssassin in order to enable changes to header, subject or body as given in SpamAssassin config
  • Show FULL message header when pressing on "[Header]" button or may be even add button "[raw]" to display all the RAW message text to be able to see X-Spam and other headers as well
  • Option to set level of verbosity of logging to syslog and Aide Room (citserver's -x option did not seem to have an effect, could not find the environment variables mentioned in [1]) in order to reduce log output
  • Option to disable SMTP send where not needed (again could not find the environment variables mentioned in [1]) in order to reduce log output and load

[1] http://www.citadel.org/doku.php/documentation:cmdman:citserver#environment

For me none of them are needed to have a running system, but every single one would very cool and helpful for my needs.

Thanks a lot for your nice product again. I am looking forward to see it evolve further. Greetings

DrTrigon

Did you mix several installation ways? easy install and debian packages? maybe you didn't edit the pages for the actualy running webcit?

Subject: posting files in rooms - problem

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I am creating a special room in my account with the tools i usually need to work when i am working remotely .

Small zips or rars until 8M there is no problem , i can post a message with that attachment (rar) .

But for ex: a rar file with 30 or 40M it gives me an error , and when i reconnect to citadel i have the message there without the attachment !!!

the error i get is a blank page with this message : "The connection was reset" when i do the post message .

How to solve this situation ?

more recent versions of citadel / webcit use fineuploader, that doesn't show the regular problems of browsers when posting multipart mime uploads: they simply cut off the file upload after 8MB.

You can use wireshark to inspect that failure - its the buggy browsers.
