Subject: Re: No notification for permanent failure.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

While I don't get any notification the the address was rejected by the remote server using Citadel.

I do get a 554 error if I send a message to the same non-existing user, via gmail.

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: user@yahoo.com Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain yahoo.com by mta5.am0.yahoodns.net. [98.136.217.202]. The error that the other server returned was: 554 delivery error: dd This user doesn't have a yahoo.com account (user@yahoo.com) [-5] - mta1374.mail.gq1.yahoo.com

Am I missing configuration entries for handling these errors????

Tue Jul 30 2013 16:07:07 EDT from snakefisher @ Uncensored Subject: Funambol connector? Push alternatives?

I'm new to Citadel and new to servers and mail servers in particular.  Over the past few weeks, I've successfully set up my Citadel email server and have migrated my personal domain over and its running quite well.  While I've been proud of how fast this old man has picked up on all of this, I'm now humbled as I can't figure out how to get citadel to work with my mobile phone (I have a Windows Phone 8 device).  In my reading, I've found numerous references to the Funambol connector and Funambol sync server.  However, when I click on the link in the FAQ, it is no longer valid.  I opened the Google cache version of the page and found the following:  "As of 2012, the Citadel email connector is unsupported due to the lack of client and server support for newer smartphones and Funambol releases."

Is there now an alternative to Funambol for accessing imap email from a mobile device?  What are others doing?  Am I missing something?

I greatly appreciate any help that you can provide.

Thanks!

doesn't your client have a native imap app available?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. In reading your question, I realized that I failed to actually describe the problem I'm having. I can successfully retrieve and send mail via imap in both outlook and thunderbird on my desktop computer. However, with the same mail settings applied in the native imap app on my phone, I get the email header only and the app just hangs attempting to download the body of the message, regardless of size. I've had no problems accessing mail from other servers via imap using the same native client.

Perhaps I've incorrectly concluded that it has something to do with push functionality. Suggestions?

Thanks!

Firstly, you can use POP and IMAP to access email on your device as you would with a desktop email client. What you cannot do is 'push email' - where the email server notifies your device when new mail has arrived.

The Funambol Email connector was my doing (I am still maintaining the contacts/calendar module for Funambol) - and what you have said is correct - push email via Funambol is no longer supported as there are no clients for modern mobile OSes. (The last supported OSes were Windows Mobile, J2ME, S60 and BlackBerry 4)

I think someone was developing ZPush (ActiveSync) for Citadel, which would be the best way to do it these days, as long as you aren't somewhere where Microsoft can enforce their patents against you. IMAP IDLE would be another alternative, but no one has attempted to add that into Citadel, unfortunately.

The push notification feature is still in Citadel if you want to work out a way to deliver new email notifications seperately.

I appreciate the clarification.  If I understand you correctly, both imap and pop3 should work without any additional accommodation for mobile devices.  If that's the case, do you have any suggestions on how to solve the problem that I described to dothebart, of not being able to fetch the entire message from the server?

It doesn't seem to matter whether the message is an incoming email message or one that I sent that's located in my 'sent' folder.  I've also deleted the account from my phone and re-added it, to no avail.

See the screenshot below - it doesn't matter how long I wait for the remaining 24KB (on my 1.5MB wifi connection), it never actually downloads the body of the message.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I am using debian repository.

root@mail:/var/log# uname -a
Linux mail.local 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.46-1 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The problem I am having now is that 'service citadel start' fills up the avail 40 session in seconds with the following (because SYS_SMTP_SEND is busy doing something)

Aug  3 02:20:19 mail citserver[6274]: SMTPCQ: Msg No 29990: already in progress!

Again I have switched from maildomain1 to maildomain2 and I want maildomain1 to eventually fade. So I went into the global Citadel settings and changed everything I could find to maildomain2, removed maildomain1 but apparently SYS_SMTP_SEND is trying to send stuff out like mad.  How can I keep my archived messages and start this mess over?

I can't even run ./citadel because I get as SOON as it starts. But if I let the service stop for an hour I can get back in via CLI and use it. (webcit, different story) I am still trying to figure out how to use NGINX on port 80 and keep webcit on 80 as well (looks like it uses Apache).

Please help

 /var/log shows thousands of

Jul 29 22:52:21 mail citserver[2539]: CC[0]failed to open /var/spool/citadel/network/spoolout// for reading due to Is a directory; skipping.

I would assume this is happening because of the extra forward slash.

Is there anyway to "blank" all the mail rules and set them back to default?  Switching domains apparently left some old messages as it tries to send out from the old domain.

hm, generaly you shouldn't get those if you don't use citadel networking or maybe list digest subscribers.

are you using the .debs? or .rpms? which host os? which version?

Not to come off high and might, but on mobile devices (especialy iOS) I believe the default on mailBOX setting is to download headers only. i would go into the mailbox settings and make sure you either uncheck MAIL HEADERS only or check something along the lines of DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE MESSAGE

running Citadel 8.14 with text client v8.14,
server build 53481be,
and located in USA.
Connected users 1 / Active users 1 / Highest message #42219

this is a 1 person operation, i maybe have under ~1000 emails, certainly not 42219. I have a feeling most of these are all the "sent items" from SYS_SMTP_SEND being rejected

its sending mails; maybe you've got some of them?

however if you start citserver, you can control the number of simultaneous outbound smtp connections using the environment:

http://citadel.org/doku.php/documentation:cmdman:citserver#environment

(or disable it completely)

you then can cleanup your smtp queue using webcit.

I tried adding the SMTP_n_session_max=0 to /etc/init.d/citadel but when I do a 'service citadel stop' 'service citadel start' it immediately still fills up.  Under WHO IS ONLINE, it shows mailadmin (me), SYS_SMTP_SEND and under the  idle category  it says 'fish' and from my OLD DOMAIN. Please help

try export on the shell, and running citserver from there without parameters; then retry cleaning your outbound queue.

describes the procedure in detail.

Well I am editing citadel as root and im logging in as the "mail admin" to the CLI citadel because I can't get webmail up since trying tos witch domains.  AT this point, im starting to think it owuld be just easier to "loose" all my previous domains email, uninstall and re-install.

Carbon14LLC,

I appreciate your response.  I checked and there is no option for that on the windows phone.

However, I remembered that my wife has an android tablet which I set up my email on and it worked flawlessly.  I then did more reading and discovered that this is a known issue with the Windows phone that Microsoft is supposedly "working on" and it is not an issue with Citadel

With that said, I want to express appreciation to everyone that's taken the time to respond and help me out.  I will continue to explore potential solutions for this and will update the forum if I find one.

Subject: Thunderbird calendar support with Sogo

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I've been running Citadel for a while but recently trying to get the calendar to integrate with Thunderbird, installed the lightning and Sogo addons but I when I create a new calendar I continually get asked for authentication, I put the correct username and password in only to be asked again. I also tried unsuccessfully to use the Sync Kolab addon to access the calendar with no success.

I had been using KOrganiser from KDE which worked fine but I'm now using Thunderbird under Openbox.

Any help would be appreciated.
