Subject: Mail client wrong sender name - can this be fixed?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey,

For security reasons the account usernames on my citadel server don't match the real (given) names, e.g. account name (for login): "somename", preferred display name to be shown at an email: "othername".

If I'm using the webmail everything appears to be alright, because I changed at the users bio the name to be shown to "othername", changed the preferred mail adress and same in the user settings. So if I write an email via the webinterface the correct name and senderadress is shown.

Problem: when I use thunderbird as the email client it just sends emails with the account user name as the send name instead of the preferred display name.

Is this a citadel related problem, or can I fix this with reconfiguring sth.?

Regards, kaefer

This issue was directly addressed on 2013-aug-25 -- I'm not sure what version number that means, but that's the date in the commit log. When messages are submitted via SMTP they honor the sender's preferred display name.

What version of Citadel server are you using? You might have an old one, in which case a simple upgrade will fix the issue.

Subject: configure citadel as mail server

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello,

I'm a Newbie in Linux and Citadel too, I need to configure citadel with 10 emails that retrieve emails from a POP, configure outlook for users and use the smtp from my hosting, but configure an alternative smtp too. I already installed citadel in a virtual machine, used the default account to try, and configure the retrieval, but it does not retieve any email. I want to use it as an alternative to Exchange but there is not any manual or clear user guide.

Where can I find a guide to configure step by step?

Hi,

Citadel supports multidomain, does it also support multitenency where an administrator can be assigned to a domain?

Thx

Hm, regarding this we already have:

http://citadel.org/doku.php/faq:favoriteclient:how_do_i_retrieve

and:

http://citadel.org/doku.php/faq:installation:configuring_postfix_to_validate_email_addresses_against_a_citadel_server

Its a docuwiki - so the source of the text can be retrieved like this:

http://citadel.org/doku.php/faq:installation:configuring_postfix_to_validate_email_addresses_against_a_citadel_server?do=export_raw

so if you want to extend them, feel free to send new versions.

no.  The domains also are either free chooseable by the user, or the admin has to configure the emails for the user.

You can however run multiple citserver/webcit  instances with -h /directory/ on the same host - which will then have nothing in common.

hmm,

I've got a configuration with retrieving mails from a german provider GMX. Most of the german provider switched to TLS/SSL mailconfiguration only.

Now no more GMX mails can retrieve, it seems the built in function of citadel doesn't use SSL/TLS?

I gave the answer for myself with the last post. Remote retrieval -> port 110

does the remote retrieval (pop3) in citadel work withe encyption (STARTTLS over port 110, or pop3 over SSL -> port 995)?

yes - its not possible.

the only workaround would be to locally run an stunnel for the encryption.

Hi,

does SSL/TSL support come to get the mails via pop?

For GMX and other german providers it is the only way to collect the mails. OK. I can use other ways. But a short and directly one is the best.

Thanks and kind regards

Dieter

Hi Dieter,

it is not difficult to let fetchmail make the job. Then you have an advantage to filter your retrieved mails with the built in filter of citadel too.

@dothebard

We should mention in the docs that citadel can't do the job , shouldn't we?

Subject: AD Auth not working

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello,

I am trying to setup Citadel to auth to an Active Directory.

I have previously had it working from a samba 4 AD DC but it doesn't seem to be working now.

I have tried debian, but every time it finishes the install the administrator has a blank password and none of the AD info is in the directory page.

Also tried the debian repo, but it doesn't even ask for info when you select AD auth.

Also tried Ubuntu and same problem.

Anyone know about working with this?

Subject: SMTP Relay for local subnet

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all, I've got my Citadel 8.14 running happily on a Debian 7 box. I'd like to allow other hosts on the same subnet to use it as a smart relay for sending mails outside my domain. I cannot find on google anything regarding relaying except for this externa "smart relay" you should setup. Does this mean I have to setup a parallel postfix to deliver outside ? I manage my DNS name and don't use provider service mail. Help !

That is correct, and by design. The purpose of Citadel's SMTP MTA is exclusively to send mail in and out of Citadel.

However, if you can get your other hosts to perform SMTP-AUTH against the Citadel server, it will happily send mail out for you.

Subject: Citadel not listening on 25 or 143

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi Citadel gurus,

I've had a Citadel server running for about 18 months on a debian wheezy box with no problems until recently when webcit started crashing. I found that if I kept webcit shutdown Citadel continued to run ok and I could access email via IMAP.

This week I found citadel had crashed and after some investigation I found that log files had filled by /var partition. After cleaning this up and restarting the box I could not connect to Citadel with webcit or my IMAP client. Looking into it further I found that citadel is not listening on SMTP or IMAP ports (netstat -lan). There are no other processes using these ports.

I can connect to the server via the text Citadel client and can read existing mail etc. I tried reconfiguring via .Aide System configuration General but this has not fixed the problem.

Can anyone advise how to troubleshoot this further?

Is there another way to review / configure the services / ports? What logging can I review to discover the problem?

Thanks,
