So amazon has stopped putting the actual product in email notices. This is dumb and dangerous. Makes them look exactly like a phish mail and will will put tons of people at risk, and its ( i assume ) to get you to login so you can be blasted with more ads. *****ers.

had my 'emergency kit' out of the jeep today, charging up the battery on the jumper and inflator. I do it every so often. Pulled otu a couple of the older 'univeral' tools in there. No, they are not as good as the real thing, but if htey get the job done 95% of the time and you carry one wrench instead of 20, its a win.

I clicked on the Amazon link as one advantage to them is no questions asked returns if you get garbage. "wtf, this looks like its on AliExpress" Not that i care, this stuff comes from china ( or similar ) anyway. but was shocked to see the drastic difference in normality.
At the top "Amazon Haul" wtf is this ?? I read.. looks like they are playing "web middle man" for overseas sellers and taking almost zero responsibility. "Shipping may take 2 weeks or more, and you become the legal importer and are responsible bla bla".. What in the world.
We have clear signs as you enter town "permit required. ordnance enforced" and part of that permit is to accept a 50 dollar fine if you ignore signs on homes. ( at least used to be 50, may be more now )

Do you think American or European IT development has any more integrity? I absolutely distrust all technology at this point. I stopped doing h4x0rz thingz a long time ago, because I saw the writing on the wall.
As soon as I got well enough off to have something to lose, I just paid for whatever it was I wanted. It wasn't worth the risk of a Plex server, anymore.

And by the way - my technical proficiency fell off a cliff at the same time. Figuring out how to break systems was what got me a lucrative career with technology bellwethers - and I think growing up in the bay area - they *knew* it. When I got hired on at Intel, my leadership approached me and asked, "Hey, you know other people, you know - like YOU - that are good at... bypassing restrictions and finding innovative solutions, right?" And then they paid me $2500 bonus for every one of those guys I brought on. The rest of my team had CIS degrees from Chico and UCLA and MCSEs and A+ and CCSEs and were "by the books" dudes - and they HATED me and my friends and our "unorthodox" IT methodologies of "Well, how can I BREAK this..." We had none of the paper tiger degrees - and whatever they threw up in front of us, we broke and bypassed - often so quickly I felt bad for those degree dudes.
.Or even non-tech. Food. Housing, Any of it. Its all a scam and everyone is in on it, regardless of the 'country of origin'. All they care about is if they get rich off it today, screw the future, and the serfs.

Looks like several states are ganging up on Meta. If they win, it may cost Meta upwards of $1.4t ( yes, a T not B ) in fines and radical changes to their operations.
Now, i hate them as much as the next guy, and they have done some bad things, but the side effects of this, will be bad for everyone online, and any online service. ( Such as advancement of mandatory age verification, AND AI to search out liars that are really under 13 and wipe their accounts.. .. for one easy example )
And of course anyone they actually legit hurt, wont see a dime. it all goes to the politicians and members of the club...

The vast majority of "job" listings are for jobs that do not exist; they are there to mine data from job applicants. Combine that with the way many job seekers now use technology to scatter-shot their applications anywhere that will accept them, and you've got a target-rich environment for scammers and identity thieves.
Yes, this is a major concern i have when i start looking for something next year to do.
Already removed things like my address from my resume for when i post it, i'm thinking of switching the number to my google number instead of real as well.. They need to have a number to reach you at so gotta have something. That wont ink back to 'me' and its easily changed too. You can rotate it out every so often.. But even if i get a call back, there is still a concern if its legit or not. Will be researching then contacting the company directly "hey, due to today's world, especially in IT, can i verify .... " its not the 1980s anymore. ( or even 2000s )

Many of you have heard me prattle on about my plans to integrate Citadel into some sort of existing federated media fabric in the future to increase our reach. At the time I thought it would be ActivityPub. But apparently it started out bad and has only gotten worse from there. As someone here pointed out, the blacklists are now globally distributed and strongly enforced by the type of people who think the word "blacklist" is racist.
It started as "if you federate with Gab you can't federate with us."
Now it's "if you fail to implement our blacklist you're a nazi fascist white supremacist and you can't federate with anyone in the main cluster."
I've also learned that Nostr is considered "fash tech" because it doesn't blacklist, in fact it can't blacklist because there's no such control possible in the protocol. And the mob is starting to tar and feather people who are involved in it. Furthermore, its community has a lot of technolibertarians in it.
That sounds more like our speed. And apparently the software itself has a better data model match with ours anyway.

Never heard of them until now, took a look to see how the protocol worked, thought it would be a GitHub like page. I was wrong, 2/3 their entire front page is a feed of YT videos..
With all the 'trash' out in the world these days, do we still really want to federate and open the flood gates? its not 1985 anymore :) Sure, growth is good, but is a risk we get flooded with morons and the s/n ratio kills us.
