Or at least removed from the union. ( or what passes for one now.. its really not anymore, and has not been for quite a long time... but another story for another room )

I hated that the Left tried to leverage Kirk's opinion on gun control, after they killed him, into, "How would you feel now?"
Exactly the same way. "This is exactly what I said."
Way to make a martyr.
Both sides do it.. "Never let a crisis go to waste." And if an usable event didn't quite make it to crisis stage, (ab)use the media to push it into one. Then use it for your agenda.

I disagree. There are points where the Right goes - "OhmyGod. This is what we mean. We don't want to see anyone celebrate this, We don't want to leverage this to promote our agenda."
The Left goes, "Look at this shit! EXACTLY what we told you! This... right here. No time to have regret or compassion - we have to move forward with our agenda first, we can come back to the tragedy of this later."
And I feel like Kirk solidified this in a LOT of America's zeitgeist. I guess we'll see in the midterms - but I think the Kirk assassination sent a lot of the American politic - especially younger males - HARD right. Harder right than I am. Than Ig is.
We'll see. But I think the Left radicalized a lot of young (white) males hard Christian Right.
And... I'm OK with that. The Left DESERVES the Handmaid's Tale at this point, maybe.

Well I guess you could say I am hard Right, but not alt-Right. The ACTUAL racists and anti-Semites on 4chan, Twitter etc. disgust me.
Agreed. But the thing is, if the racists and xenophobes and homophobes are "alt-right," the alternative is the "Ctrl-Left" and they're just as bad. The AnitFA and BLM burning cities and celebrating murder of those they disagree with philosophically.
Neither alternative is one I want to see be dominant.

Didn't look closer, but seems Matt Hoover was released from prison this week.
Never should have been there in the first place. A fiasco, he was just used as a pawn by the ATF to show their raw power and scare people.
So, a mass shooting in one of the most firearm restrictive nations on the planet.
When are 'the people' going to just say enough is enough?
"Australia PM will propose tougher gun laws after Bondi Beach mass shooting"
Of course he will. Scumbag. Never let an event go to waste. People there need to stop this. There is a way.

Funny thing about that ... people can throw "racist" and "nazi" and "fascist" at conservatives and moderates all day long, and the effect is finally dissapating.
The race card is overdrawn, and in many places it doesn't work anymore.
How can you spot a *real* bigot? They're the ones blaming TEH J00Z!!!!!!11 for everything.
I don't know why. But it's a breathtakingly reliable marker.
"A search of the shooters home revealed he had nearly 200 rounds and an evil laser sight!" Ramping for more attempts at removing gun rights here in the US. Never let an event go to waste.
So, you're a pro 2A liberal? Not trying to be offensive - but the things we disagree on, doesn't lead me to believe we would find common ground on THIS hill.
Not that it would surprise me. Especially on a Citadel. My stereotypes all become useless on a place like this - it frustrates me. ;)

Not sure what you mean by "2A liberal"? I fully believe in the 2A and infringement is wrong. And that other countries should have similar base laws too.

No. That was what I was asking. You seem Pro 2A... I guess you are. It makes it harder to gauge you. If you fit neatly into the things I dislike, it would be easier to dislike you. But you don't - so I constantly have to think HARD about how I'm going to respond to you. That sucks - for me. It would be far easier to hate you if you were aligned against me on every issue.. I'm lazy. I'd rather have it be easy for me.

Im hard core Constitution in general ( even if it is missing a few pieces that our founders didnt think of at the time.. ).
While naturally some of my interpretations may differ on some of the amendments since in a few cases they are somewhat vague in my opinion, the 2nd is pretty clear. "shall not infringe" is black and white. And related, i have read enough of our founding documents to know why its there, and every time people say "so they could hunt food".. grumble, idiots.
Tossing the word liberal and 2A together, is what confused me. They are somewhat opposed to each other.
Fri Dec 26 2025 06:52:48 UTC from ParanoidDelusionsNo. That was what I was asking. You seem Pro 2A...
No. On this issue, preach, brother! The first thing they did was encode the inalienable right to freedom of speech and freedom of the press.
The 2nd thing they did was arm us to protect the 1st. It is blatantly obvious. It wasn't for me to go out and blow away ducks and deer - or to protect my house. Those are just happy benefits.
The 2nd amendment was to protect my ability to exercise my 1st amendment.
And when angry black people go militant for this reason - even when I disagree with them and it makes me uncomfortable - I have to agree - this is EXACTLY why I defend the 2nd Amendment. Maybe they NEED to be armed and angry for the rest of us to listen to them - and maybe one day I'll want that same opportunity for myself.
That is the double sided blade of the 2A.

its like the first, for me.
"I may disagree with what you say, but ill still fight for your right to say it." ( of course i have the right to ignore you afterwards and flip you the bird ... but still you get to speak )

Not that i disagree its one of the reasons, but i think it was much more than 'just' that. It was to be able to fundamentally protect our way of life from the next oppressors that they knew were coming. They may not know the form, but they knew history repeats.

If you think that's true, then you aren't refusing to read any part of the Constitution beyond the parts that you want to apply to yourself. Simply within that exact same sentence, it tells you the exact reason for the amendment, and it is NOT for that.
