That is why you use an RSS feed reader. I subscribe to Schlock Mercenary, Abstruse Goose, XKCD, and a small handful of others. Overall, I spend less time reading webcomics than I would reading
the comics of a newspaper, simply because I read fewer, high-quality comics instead of larger numbers of mediocre-quality comics.

I have a question: Is manga something people indulge in to try to compensate for the lack of excitement and imagination in their lives? Or are Japanese cartoon characters just rubbing it in how much more exciting their world is than ours?

I ask this because I've observed otherwise serious-looking Tokyo subway commuters engrossed in manga, to the extent that they didn't even notice they were being crammed into subway cars like human sardines—which itself seems a manga-worthy situation. But no.
